Chevrolet truck 4wd switch blinks

When i push the buttons for 4hi or 4lo they just blink. When i got the truck a couple months ago they would blink about 5 times then stay on and the 4wd would engage. Now they just blink. The other day i was driving home and noticed my 2wd light that is usually on wasn't lit. When i got home i tried pushing the 4hi and 4lo buttons and they wouldnt light up either. When i drove it the next day the 2wd light stayed on like normal but when i push the 4hi and 4lo buttons they just blink and never stop blinking to engage. The 4lo stopped blinking to engage once and i could hear it under the truck but would never do it again. All i get is a blinking from the 4hi and 4lo. I had the transfer case checked out by a transmission shop when my transmisson was getting rebuilt and everything was okay with the transfer case. The guy even swapped parts off of another transfer case to see if that would fix the 4wd issue but it didn't work. Could it be the actuator switch on the axle? Please Help this is frustrating.

i have a computer scanner at work and when i hooked it up it came back with no codes.

I haven't taken the actuator switch out to check i just didn't know if that would be the problem yet. I will try tapping with hammer and see if it engages.

Start your vehicle and place it in nuetral. Then try tapping on the actuator with a hammer while someone pushes the 4-hi button inside the vehicle. Sometimes lack of use of the 4wd system will allow for corrosion to build up inside the electrical part of the actuator. Tapping on it with a hammer can knock this corrosion loose and allow for electrical contact to be made, ultimately engaging the actuator and locking in the 4wd.

If they are blinking I believe it means that there are fault codes present in the pcm. You need to get the computer scaned to see if there are an codes present. If you live near an Autozone or Checker autoparts they can scan it for free.

My 1997 GMC Sierra lights for 4hi and 4lo blink when i push the 4hi button and then goes back into 2hi. but when i push 4lo it locks in and works fine. I tried changing the 4wd motor on the transfer c

THE TRANSFER CASE MOTOR IS ONLY FOR 4WD LOW. That would have never been the problem as soon as you confirmed it shifted into 4wd Low. 2wd and 4 Hi work off of vacuum. You may have one or two issues. A vacuum leak up by the front axle that engages the 4wd HI or the sensors on the transfer case.

Your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop . Service 4X4 light's blinking . DTC'S - diagnostic trouble code's stored in the 4X4 control module.

it is very possible that a wheel speed sensor is open or reading erratic, causing the ECM to override the 4WD switch. Borrow/rent/buy a scanner that will tell you this info,

My 98 chevy blazer won't shift into 4wd.

Most common problem is the vacuum diaphragm that is so inconviently mounted UNDER the battery tray. The cable that locks in the front diff is attached to it and vacuum pulls it in/out.

99 Blazer-push button 4wd not working

Make sure that all 4 tires have the same tread on them, if one or more of them are different, then the 4wd may not engage. I had the same problem with my blazer, I changed only 2 tires at a time. The front tires would rotate faster than the rear ones, the gears in the transfer case won't line up right.
