96 saturn sc2 deployed airbags fixable?

I was in a car accident about a month ago guy hit my front left bumper & fender hard enough for my airbags to go of worth it to fix? The car still runs perfectly fine it just needs cosmetic stuff & ac work but I can live without the ac he bent the subframe too but I have friends who are going to do it for me if I get the part. I would love to fix it because the car still runs & is well below 100k miles it only had 90k but my uncle works at a dealership & he said forget it because of the airbags because you need to replace & reset things & even if you fix it they still may not work. Any input is appreciated thank you!!

Your uncle is correct, but if you love the car and don't mind spending a few hundred dollars this is what you will need to replace, and he is also correct in that even when you are done you will still have to find a dealer to reset the system. You will need both air bags, the coil connector under the steering wheel and the discriminating sensor located under the center consoled. In 1995 when Saturn changed the interior to the rounded dash they also added a passenger side airbag and changed the location and design of the discriminating sensor module to a 1 time only module. The airbags and module sensor will cost you the most, be very careful not to drop the new module before you get it into the car. Dropping it will dislodge the ball bearing that causes the bags to deploy! If you do decide to fix it Please make sure the battery terminal are disconnected from your cars battery before you even attempt to replace anything to do with the Airbag System!!!!

Just to be clear, you will need to find a GM Dealer that will be willing to rest your Airbag System! This will I believe, the only way the AirBag light will turn off on the dash and reactivate your Airbag System. They will also be able to tell you if you installed everything correctly! This is a VERY DANGEROUS SYSTEM and not to be taken lightly when working with all of its components! Hope this helps! Be SAFE!

As your uncles suggested, Airbags are sophisticated mechanism. If you try to repair, maybe but may NOT be you may get them fine. Better, contact Authorized Service Station and confirm whether that feature is completely restore able.

SOURCE: 98 Saturn SL1, Was in accident: Deployed Airbags & Horn questions

The light should go out after you replace the sensor that should be in the front of the vehicle. You can check the fuse for the horn. However, some of the airbags that don't come from a dealers, don't deploy, but there is no way of knowing that until you are in an accident.

Where are the airbag sensors located in a 2003 honda accord?

The sensor is usually encased in a pnuematic piston located in the front bumper. You ran over a curb? You hit the bumper, it deployed.

How do I disable the airbags in vehicles so equipped. I'd rather not purposefully ram the front bumper to force a deploy.

Talk to your insurance company first. If they are giving a discount based on these safety features and you choose to circumvent them and down the road you have an accident they may choose to deny your claim.

Where is the airbag sensor for the fender on a 95 monte carlo

The sensor consists of a sensing element, normally open switch contacts and a diagnostic resistor. The sensing element closes the switch contacts when the vehicle velocity changes are severe enough to warrant air bag deployment. They are located around the bumpers near the fenders. Look on the framing near the fender. I attached a picture of one.

We had two separate accidents involving a deer the airbags never deploy in neither collision. How do i disconnect them?

They didn't deploy cause you hit a deer, the airbags sensors need to get a gforce reading to deploy, hitting a deer ksnt enough to do it

2013 Volkswagen Beetle airbags did not deploy in my accident

The airbag technology uses many factors when deploying. If it doesn't see the need, they won't pop out at you possibly injuring you more than the small accident. When I was clipped on my rear corner and spun me around in the intersection, they didn't pop. But a head first hit popped them. The primary sensor is behind the front bumper

2002 jetta tdi airbags problems

It is not supposed to be possible for the airbags to deploy when the car isnt moving. Sounds like the car had a defective airbag system, Just be grateful it never blew up while you were behind the wheel. If it were me I would contact VW and see if they are willing to help you. And if you decide to replace the airbags, I would fight like crazy with the insurance company to have every aspect of the airbag system replaced(all sensors and computers associated with it). If you are in America, your state has an attorney generals office, If no one is willing to work with you, A friendly and concise letter to the attorney general usually straightens everyone up.

Airbags did not deploy when we rearended the car in front at 30mp

First, I hope you and any occupants are OK.

Could be a faulty sensor (unlikely), Did you have any error codes before the accident? If so they could have been for the airbags for whatever reason. The impact might not have been hard enough (Yeah I know 30mph).

Airbags are deployed based on measurements from accelerometers in the car. If some predetermined G-force is not met, the bags won't deploy. You could have the dealer verify a properly functioning system when the car is repaired but given you were hit from behind (negative G's) and then hit the car in front of you (positive G's), you may not have hit hard enough (for the car, not you) to have the bags deploy.
