SOURCE: changing a timing belt on 04 aveo

We've repaired 3 at our Chevy shop so far so you'll have to trust me when I say it's not for the faint of heart or for anyone without the special tools it takes to hold the cams in place. It is quite a job! Sorry!!

SOURCE: 2004 Chevrolet Aveo Brake lights not working

A couple of days ago my brake lights on my 2004 Chevy Aveo wouldn't work, so I attempted to remove the lamp covers to check the bulbs. Also, before this my shifter would get stuck in park and could only be released by pressing the unlock gadget next to the shifter. Back to the brakes...Well, you open the trunk and remove the two screws just like the manual said, but it was very hard to pull off. There's 2 prongs holding the other half of the light on. The lamp will come loose by prying it (very hard). You think the cover will break, but it'll come loose. The bulbs were all OK.

After much frustration and internet info, the STOP LAMP SWITCH, GM#96436331 ($9.30 at Chevy dealer), which is located under the dash and has contact with the brake pedal, was defective. Once replaced, both my brake lights AND SHIFTING problems were cured. So if the brake lights suddenly don't work or you have problems getting the vehicle out of park, check the switch by pushing the prong (end that has contact with brake) of the switch in and out. If it doesn't retract smoothly...that's the PROBLEM. Good Luck.

My aveo 04 manual wont start gets a spark ,fuel and replaced timming belt it was chewd up after car stalled on me in the high way but still wont start. gears also shift into place whats wrong?

If the timing belt became chewed up it would seem the belt/timing has slipped (do not try starting it like this bad things could happen) You'll need to replace the timing belt, tensioner and insure the proper mechanical timing is done for it to run properly if at all. If the belt failed at highway speed and it has a interference fit engine this would mean a valve or two may be bent too. I'd check the timing and once this is corrected I'd checking cylinder compression.
I hope this may have helped,
Tom

2004 aveo won't start

Your timing belt could have broken, I really don't understand when you say free spin. Do you mean the engine?? and if it is then good chances are it's the timing belt.

Tune up

At 60,000 you should have all the major things done if you haven't already:
oil change(every 3000)
air filter change(every 15,000)
coolant flush(every 30,000)
spark plugs and wires(every 30,000)
transmission fluid & filter change(every 30,000)
brakes (as needed)
PCV valve (every 20,000)

You can wait until about 75000 miles to do your timing belt.

Hope this helps
