Wont come out of park when I step on the brake. need to jump the car. how can I get the car in nutruel?

Bad battery or ign seitch

Most starters have two voltage circuits, one comes from the battery, hot all the time. The other circuit goes hot with key in the start position, may be wired through neutral switch, depending on the tranny, maybe you have a starter relay? The starter motor usually grounds through the engine block. The fact you can jump the starter motor and it cranks, sounds like the ground is ok. Use a test light, check for voltage on those two voltage terminals. Make sure tranny is out of gear and parking brake is set.
Some makes and models have shift-interlock, you can't shift it unless you step on the brake. Do the brake lites work? If not fix that first.
Some makes and models have a shift-interlock bypass button so you can press the button, then shift into neutral. Parking brake set.

Sounds like the shift interlock mechanism. Have to step on brake to get it to shift. Check proper voltage circuit to brake switch. Check applicable fuse.

Dangerous practice to try & jump a near dead battery

Always try charging a battery, that is only a couple years
old & not run down more than two or three times

If the battery is dead & reads less than 12 volts, have a parts
store test it or just replace it.

Jumping a cars battery is not a fix for anything,so I fail to
see how your lost & have not addressed the battery issue,
so you can continue on with other testing,if needed

Use your key in the slot next to the gearshift. If your brake lights aren't working it won't let you put the car in gear. This slot is an emergency switch to allow you to move the car out of park to move or tow it. Either your brake light switch is bad or both brake light bulbs are out.

there is connector from the brake to the locking mechanism of the park position.you'll need to adjust it so when you press the break it will release the park

When parked on an incline, engage emergency brake FIRST, then shift into Park. Hope this helps! Works for my Buick.

Hi, you have a malfunctioning brake/park interlock. When you go to shift out of park, as you know, you have to hit the brake or the shifter won't jump out of Park into Reverse. The interlock device that in this system is probably failing.

may be the brake light switch is bad or the shift lock solenoid is bad

check your brake lights also, if none then you need to repair the wire that connects to the brake light switch at the brake pedal.....and or replace the brake light switch
