The only way to do it, beside bypassing it. Is to have the car running. find the data wire from the BCM to the ECM and cut it. This puts the ECM into default mode, it also set the security light. The car will start and run though. The draw back is. That if the battery goes dead or you disconnect power from the ECM. the ECM will reset and the car won't run. This can only be done on passkey and passkey1. I haven't tried it on passkey2. It will not work on passkey3.
1999 all other models to 2000.the data link on Nissan have to switched on at the side of the ECM that is turned by a screw driver . Lights will flash a code of long and short models 20002001 and on can only be read by a scan tool connected to a data link connector.
there are many ways to connect a data scanner to an ECM data link and there are set procedures to get the ECM to down load the data to the scanner . You may get the procedure from the makers web site or how to down load the data for your car from the web site. It is not always just a case of plug in and hey-presto
The ECM is functioning but the problem is the way the data is being communicated to the scanner. There are several different procedures to follow when reading scanners so ensure that your connecting cables are right for you ECM and scanner.
The IAT ( intake air temperature ) sensor tells the engine controller (ecm) what temperature the incoming air going into the engine is. The ecm uses that information to help determine fuel mixture based on air density. It is also used for certain emission testing the ecm does at engine start up.
If the car is running fairly normally but just won't talk to the scan tool then what I usually find is that there is a blown fuse that powers one of the pins in the OBD-II scan tool connector. I don't have a diagram of which fuse it might be but that's where I would start looking. My scan tool gives me the dreaded "no data" message anytime one of these has lost power to the connector. You could have other issues including a faulty ECM but it's pretty rare for that to happen.
it's your instrument cluster (digital speedometer). Changed mine today with a used one at the junk yard. A $50 fix, but it's worth it. The only way I knew was to buy the service manual for the car.
