First you will have to close the door with the key . take out key . insert key open and close lock five times without opening the door then on the fifth time open the door then the engine disable code will reset . I have had this problem solved by doing this . you do not have to do anything else good luck .

Lock doors with the key. Take out key . Insert key open and close lock 5 times then on the fifth turn open door this will reset the disable code to normal . I had this code on my P38 Range Rover and the Rover Tech assisted me with this simple way to reset the engine disable fault code . Good Luck .

SOURCE: 1996 4.0 Range Rover won't unlock

This car is in super lock mode... when you press remote 2times to lock or when you lock with remote and try to unlock using key manually.

there is a 4 digit number to open the door, its like opening a safe, starting from the left(key in car door) it goes L/R/L/R. so if number code is 1234..... left 1, right 2, left 3, right 4.

or if this too troublesome you can ask landrover dealer to remove the KEYCODE.

happy trying.....

You require an unlock code/ security code from the dealer. This will consist of 4 numbers. You can then input this code into the door lock to clear imobiliser. You will have to do this every time until you have your remote replaced or repaired. There is a procedure for inputting the code. What the display through the window with the door closed. You need to turn key to unlock or lock (depends on model) until you see the display react to your input. Once this happens you are ready to input the code. If for example the code was 3241 and you have turned it 4 times to the unlock position (most likely) you would start by turning it 3 times to the unlock, 2 times to the lock, 4 times to the
unlock, 1 time to the lock, pause then unlock the car and start the engine. It sounds tricky but once you get the hang of it its not too bad. If when you start to input the code it starts locking and unlocking the central locking is is not accepting the code. The difficult bit is getting it to recognise you are inputting the code. The central locking will do nothing during the code entry. Best doing this when the light is fading as its easier to see the display in the dashboard. Thats it, all you've got to do now is find the code. Often on a card inside the owners service books if still around!!
Good Luck John

SOURCE: how i reset the service engine light on a 2004

There are hidden cheats (just like a video game)
this is cool try it out.
1. ignition off
2.Press and hold trip meter button(left black button) down and turn igniton kry to first position. Keep the button pressed about 5 seconds until the words Oil Service or Inspection reset appears on LCD display.
3. Release the button then press and hold till reset begins to flash
while the display is flashing let go then press again.
the display will read END SIA and your all done.

In practice you have to make the inputs quickly, do not delay as you will have to start over

How do you enable a range rover engine when key battery is flat

There is a sequence of left and right turns of the key in the driver's door that will reset your bECM (Rovers brain) if the following have been tried.
1. Replace batteries in remote and 're-sync by depressing lock button on remote while physically turning and locking the door. Don't release button until locked and key removed. Repeat for unlock button.
2. Disconnect negative/earth cable from battery. While disconnected open driver's door, turn ignition to position 2, return to battery leaving driver's door open and reconnect the negative cable. Proceed to ignition. Turn off completely. Close all doors and hood and attempt starting.
Should both of these methods fail, run a search here on fixya for "engine disabled Range Rover P38" This will take you to step by step instructions on resetting the bECM which I opened this post with. It has been covered many times here, including by myself, no reason to post it again.
Good Luck!

Is it possible to change the ignition coils with the engine in situ ?

Yes, on a 1996 Range Rover there is just a couple of bolts and the coil pack assy comes right off.
The cylinders are numbered on the coil pack. The 1996 has 1 coil pack for all the cylinders.
1999 -2002 has 2 coil packs which can also be replaced with everything still assembled but it is much more difficult and it can take a qualified technician upto 2 hours to replace them
