Latch wont release

Heidi, No electric release. The latch is probably stuck. While you pull the interior hood release have an assistant push down and pull up repeatably/vigorously until hood releases from stuck position. Lube latch and cable before closing hood. I would check to see if the hood release moves when the inside lever is pulled then pushed, if not the cable and latch mechanism may need lubrication or be broken.

I think that is a electric switch at the latch on the trunk lid. The latch could be brokne of a wire is broken.

The cable could be broken and not attached to the latch.

It may be that your hood release cable that runs from the hood release is broken. You'r going to have to try and manually release the hood latch by tripping the release through the grill with something like a long screwdriver. You should be able to identify the latch trigger by following the cable to end.
You might also try having push down on the hood while another person tries to trip the latch if the cable isn't broken, but just stuck.

Sometimes these latches need lubrication. Something may ahve jammed it. Sometimes the trunk gets squished out of line with the latch. Check for too much clearance and for the parts to move freely. The release cable can sometimes be pinched, broken or jammed.

Hi moiramarydow, if the hood release cable is not broken, you could get a helper to push down on the hood at front center over the latch to relieve pressure of latch while you pull the hood release , if it opens ,grease it good.......if the cable i mentioned is broken ,you will need a new one but in the meantime to open it i have done this: look into the front of the grille with a brite light around hood latch of course, and locate the release, you can I D it by the small cable coming from it, trip the latch to open, in other words you have to do what that cable does by hand, use any tool you can to reach it and get leverage on it,, being careful not damage any thing in the process like the radiator or condensor. good luck . Try pushing down on the hood while someone else pulls the lever to open the hood. Then lift up and release latch as usual.
Could be broken spring in latch.

I think your cable came loose from the latch. try to see it through the grill, maybe you can get to it with a long flat tip screwdriver

Is there any part of the cable inside the cabin that you can pull with a pair of pliers? I suggest that you try that. You may need to disassemble it from the pull handle to make that work.
