Possible bearing in one of the drive pulleys. I have changed numerous alternators for this noise. Take the belt off and start the car. If the noise goes away you know it will be pulley related and not transmission related. If noise goes away, spin all pulleys by hand to determine the defective/noisy one

It could be the Bendix inside the starter which engages the
starter drive.

Can be a number of things; worn serpentine belt or it's loose, bad idler pulley, or any other pulley on engines serpentine belt routing .

nothing to do with breaks sounds more like a u joint or bearing

I know i have the same problem, and i also noticed than when i open the Hood the whistle just stops, so i figure out it must be some air cycling in or out osmewhere, I found out my air intake connected to throttle body was misplaced a weird gap was left open allowing air to whistle. u might wanna check there

it could be the engine belt or the brakes are bad listen to where it coming from and you will know which you have to change

Try checking your brakes, some might need replacement due worn out. If you open your brakes, you will find that your wear limit indicator is causing the squeal / francisjdies

could be the warning sensors on pads brakes last appx.25,000 on these vehicles as they weigh alot and the brakes are undersized have the pads changed out
