well ive never heard of a reset for a fuel pump but if you put your ear to the gas tank and have someone turn the key on (not start) and see if you hear a buzzing sound if you dont then the pump is bad.
typically with toyota's one of the main floors is the big end, ie the connecting rods to the crank, if looked after these are very good vehicles especially the diesel ones, but if the oil is not kept clean this can lead to allot of unneeded wear and tear, does it bang as well under stress? ie putting your foot down it reallyisn't the end of the world as the engine is easily changed and for possibly a lot less than it would cost to repair, shop around the breakers i am sure you will find a bargain, and some even fit it for you....hope this helps
