Security light flashes,no start
I had a 1995 F150 with a recall bulletin for an electrical problem in the doors. Took the truck to Midway Ford, they worked on the truck, parked it up on the hill East of the shop. When I got there the truck started, the alarm triggered and when they checked out their work, they had failed to re-connect a wire inside the drivers door. Have you had wiring connections opened recently? You might want to recheck the connections if you have. That was the only time the truck did anything like that and after they reconnected the wire I had no more electrical problems with it.
Use the door key and lock the drivers door wait a few seconds then unlock the door and that should disarm the system. if this does not work then disconnect the battery after bout 15 seconds or so reconnect battery and perform above procedure again and that should do it. Let me know how it goes.
Testimonial: "Helpful, but did not work. The security light flahes constantly with key in it and on or off, makes me programing, but without 2 original keys I cant change the programming of the vehicle. When AAA sent a locksmith out to look at it,the worker made a new key but couldn't program it because his machine wouldn't/couldn't talk to the BCM,so the nw key isn't any good right now unless there is a way to programjust the key-my fear is the cost that Ford charges.Hardware stores can program just the key,but HOW could I program the vehicle to match the key?Any ideas would be appreciated..Thanks----Scott"
For Dawn Johnson and Kcnomad45 just a follow up on what went wrong with the 2002 Ford Explorer,it turned out after trying so many different things that a fuse in location 41 under the hood was blown,i replaced the fuse and it now works. One thing that was weird is i found a question somewhere else and the guy said that the odometer was all dashes, and the code scanner wasnt communicating with the vehicle computer, same problem as me,so i went after that and it was fixed in 10 miutes.Sinple little fuse...Thanks again

This means that your key is not being recogonized.Ethier the chip in the key is bad or the patts transciever at the lock cylinder. Do you have a spare key? If not you will have to get 2 new keyss cut and programmed.

Two things that it could be.
1 - Look under the hood, there is a wire coming out of the master cylinder, there was a problem with some of the windstars that leak brake fluid, run down the wires and drip on the neutral safety switch, which would cause the light to come on.
2 - This one solved my problem. It could be the transmission valve body that needs to be updated or changed out. There are many issues with these valve bodies. Slipping from 1-2, OD light blinking, shift 1-2-3-2, late down shift from 3-2. I had all of these.
If you do some work on cars, then you should be able to change out the valve body yourself, with a torque wrench. I picked one up on ebay for $180 with shipping both ways, and took my about 2 hours. My Windstar never drove so good.
-fyi, The OD solenoid is inside the transmission.

The security systems pass lock is disabling the vehicle. This usually happens when the ignition switch does not recognize the ignition key and/or a defective fob or the battery in the fob needs to be replaced. If you ignition key is too worn. This could possibly be your problem

You should have the computer self tested by someone with a scan tool. The flashing overdrive light indicates a concern with the transmission. Self testing the computer should produce a fault code and give you some idea of what is wrong.

These instructions will save you a lot of money. The dealer wants at least $50 just to do this simple procedure.....
To start off, I'll explain a bit about what a PATS key is, what it does, and why this might concern you.
PATS is an acronym that stands for Passive Anti-Theft System (Ford also calls this SecuriLock). It is also called a transponder key. It is a security feature found on most (if not all) new Ford products, and what it does is disable your vehicle's starter unless your specially programmed key is used to start the vehicle. There is a computer chip inside of the key, and without that you will NOT be able to start the vehicle -- even if you have a regular (non-PATS) key with the correct cuts, it will not work.
For convenience, I'm also including a list of other vehicles that these instructions apply:
Ford Contour '98-up
F-150 '98-up
Ford Crown Victoria '97-up
Ford Escort 99-up
Ford Excursion '00-up
Ford Expedition '98-up
Ford Explorer '98-up
Ford Focus '00-up
Ford Mustang '96-up
Ford Ranger '98-up
Ford Taurus '96-up
Ford Windstar '98-up
Lincoln Continental '98-up
Lincoln LS '00-up

Lincoln Navigator '98-up
Lincoln Town Car '98-up
Mercury Grand Marquis '97-up
Mercury Mountaineer '98-up

NOTE: These instructions may apply to more or less vehicles than those listed above. I cannot confirm that these procedures work for every year and model listed. See your dealer if to confirm this.
On-Board Programming Method "B"
for Ford keys (1996 -early 1998 Ford, Lincoln, Mercury)
If you want to initiate a new master key....
1. Insert new key into ignition cylinder and turn it to the ON (RUN) position. The security light on the dash will flash for fifteen minutes.
2. When the security light stops flashing, you have FIVE minutes to start the next step. Turn the ignition cylinder OFF and then back to the ON (RUN) position. The security light on the dash will flash for fifteen more minutes.
3. When the security light stops flashing, you have FIVE minutes to start the next step. Turn the ignition cylinder to OFF and then back ON (RUN) position. The dash will flash for fifteen more minutes.
4. After the security light stops flashing the third time, the new key has been programmed into the vehicles computer and will operate the car. It has replaced ALL the previous electronic key codes and is the ONLY key programmed into the vehicles computer.
If you want to add a key....
1. Insert an existing key into the ignition cylinder.
2. Turn the ignition cylinder to ON (RUN) and back to OFF.
3. Remove the existing key and, within 15 seconds, insert the new key and turn it to ON (RUN).
4. The security light will light up for two seconds to indicate success in programming the key into the vehicle.
5. Don't attempt to start the vehicle with any key for at least 1 minute.
