SOURCE: Battery

I would request that the battery be replaced regardless. Ive replaced many a Prius battery that is too weak to start the car, and by the time it gets to the shop its charged enough to pass a test. Dont try for any stronger batteries, it is a special glass matt design and shouldnt be replaced with anything non toyota. The code is probably because the voltage is too low to run certain computers, and unlock the transmission. I would probably stop leaving the key in or near the car, that certainly doesnt help.

2005 Chevy cobalt 2.2 the car won't go out of park

Does the car have a automatic transmission ? If it does could have problem with shift lock control system
Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control Description and Operation
The automatic transmission shift lock control system is a safety device that prevents an inadvertent shift out of PARK when the engine is running. The driver must press the brake pedal before moving the shift lever out of the PARK position. The system consists of thew following components:
• The automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid
• The body control module (BCM)
• The transmission control module (TCM)
The BCM controls the voltage to the shift lock control solenoid through the shift lock control solenoid controlled voltage circuit. The following conditions must be met before the BCM will supply voltage to the shift lock control solenoid:
• The ignition is in the ON position
• The TCM sends an input via GMLAN serial data to the BCM indicating the transmission is in the PARK position
• The BCM receives a brake applied input from the brake light switch
Since the shift lock control solenoid is permanently grounded, the BCM supplies voltage to the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid, releasing the mechanical lock on the shift lever as the solenoid energizes. The energized solenoid allows the driver to move the shift lever out of the PARK position. When the brake pedal is not applied, the BCM turns the control voltage output of the shift lock control solenoid OFF, de-energizing the shift lock control solenoid. When the transmission is in the PARK position, the de-energized shift lock control solenoid will prevent shifting as the lever is mechanically locked in the PARK position.

When the brake pedal is applied, the BCM turns the control voltage output of the shift lock control solenoid OFF, de-energizing the shift lock control solenoid. The de-energized solenoid releases the mechanical lock allowing the driver to move the shift lever out of the PARK position. When the transmission is out of the PARK position, the shift lock control solenoid remains de-energized.
During remote start operation, the BCM will energize the shift lock control circuit, locking the shift lever in the PARK position.

The BCM supplies and monitors a reference voltage to the door lock switch through the door lock switch lock/unlock signal circuit. The door lock switch also receives a constant ground source. If a door lock switch is placed in the lock position, the reference voltage is taken directly to ground and the BCM senses 0.0 volts on the signal circuit. If a door lock switch is placed in the unlock position, the reference voltage is taken to ground through a 15k ohm resister that is internal to the door lock switches and senses approximately 2.9 volts on the signal circuit. This is how the BCM determines what portion of the door lock switch was activated.

Can't shift my Chevrolet Uplander out of park.

The automatic transmission shift lock control system is a safety device that prevents an inadvertent shift out of PARK when the engine is running. The driver must press the brake pedal before moving the shift lever out of the PARK position. The system consists of the following components:
?€¢
The automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid

?€¢
The body control module (BCM)

?€¢
The powertrain control module (PCM) or the transmission control module (TCM).

The BCM controls the voltage to the shift lock control solenoid through the shift lock control solenoid controlled voltage circuit. The following conditions must be met before the BCM will supply voltage to the shift lock solenoid:
?€¢
The ignition is in the ON position.

?€¢
The PCM / TCM sends an input to the BCM indicating the transmission is in the PARK position.

?€¢
The BCM determines the brake pedal is not applied according the brake pedal position.

Since the shift lock control solenoid is permanently grounded, the BCM supplies voltage to the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid, mechanically locking the shift lever in the PARK position as the solenoid energizes.
The body control module (BCM) controls the A/T shift lock control solenoid by providing battery voltage to the A/T shift lock control solenoid. The BCM utilizes a smart driver to control the voltage supplied to the A/T shift lock control solenoid. The smart driver monitors the voltage and current flow of the control circuit.

Fuse for brake lights keeps blowing out, shifter won't go into gear

Your vehicle has a safety system that won't let you take it out of park unless you have the brake pedal pressed ! Your brake switch could be shorted inside causing fuse to blow !
Shift Interlock System A brake/shifter interlock mechanism prevents shifting the transmission out of the PARK position unless the brake pedal (2455) is applied. The system consists of the following components:
  • an actuator activated by the key interlock assembly and brake pedal pressed input.
  • necessary wiring.
The system operates as follows:
  • The actuator is energized when the ignition switch is turned to RUN, locking the transmission range selector lever in the PARK position. When the brake pedal is applied and the stoplight switch (13480) is activated, the shift lock actuator is deactivated.
  • The transmission range selector lever can be moved out of the PARK position.
The ignition/shifter interlock cable (3F719) locks the transmission range selector lever in the PARK position when the ignition switch is in the LOCK position. It also requires the selector lever to be in the PARK position to turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.

My 2008 Colorado cannot shift out park gear.I drove home in 4wd on Monday through snow and slush and parked. On Tuesday morning I couldn't get it out of park. I hefted on the shifter for quite a while and...

It may or may not be a problem with shifter interlock system .
Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control System
The automatic transmission shift lock control system is a safety device that prevents an inadvertent shift out of PARK when the engine is running. The driver must press the brake pedal before moving the shift lever out of the PARK position. The system consists of the following components:
• The automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid
• The body control module (BCM)
• The engine control module (ECM)
• The transmission control module (TCM)
The body control module (BCM) controls the voltage supply circuit of the shift lock control solenoid. The following conditions must be met before the BCM will supply battery voltage to the shift lock control solenoid:
• The ignition is in the ON position.
• The ECM sends a serial data message to the BCM indicating the transmission is in the PARK position.
• The ECM receives a brake applied input from the brake light switch and sends a serial data message to the BCM indicating the brakes are not applied.
With the above conditions met, the BCM supplies battery voltage to the shift lock control solenoid. The solenoid is permanently grounded and therefore energizes, locking the shift lever in the PARK position. When the brake pedal is depressed the ECM send a serial data message to the BCM indicating the brakes are applied. The BCM turns off the battery voltage supply to the shift lock control solenoid. This de-energizes the shift lock control solenoid releasing the mechanical lock, allowing the driver to move the shift lever out of the PARK position. With the shift lever out of the PARK position the ECM sends a serial data message to the BCM and no voltage is applied to the shift lock control solenoid.

Transmission shifter stuck in park

There are 2 locking mechanisms in the shifter assembly. One is mechanical and the other is electronic. The electronic lock is disengaged when the brake pedal is depressed. This is a safety feature to disallow you from shifting from park without applying the brake. Most people would think this is the problem because of the symptom. But in fact, it is most likely the following reason which has nothing to do with the brake lock.

This problem is inevitable in all vehicles that use this gear shifter, Charger, 300, and Magnum. It happened to me on both of my vehicles (Charger and 300) within 30 days of each other. Chrysler is aware of the problem and has redesigned the part. After analyzing the new part, I believe it will fail too. The part that is failing is made of plastic and has a very small nipple on it where a spring is attached. The spring keeps tension on the part to keep it rotated in a default position as the shifter enters park. The part is attached to the key assembly via a cable and prevents the removal of the key until the shifter is in park. This is also a safety feature to prevent the vehicle from rolling if not placed in park before removing the key and exiting the vehicle. When the part fails it mechanically jams the shifter in the park position.

Emergency Solution: remove the chrome bezel and use a screw driver with a shaft at least 6" long. You will see a slot around the entire shifter assembly. Slide the screw driver straight down in the slot at the most forward position and approximately one inch left of center. Start the vehicle, hold the break, and push forward on the screw driver while maneuvering the shifter out of park. By pushing the screw driver forward you are pivoting the bottom of the screw driver and applying pressure to the failed part rotating it into the position the spring would normally place it. This allows the shifter to be removed from park. The shifter will go back to the park position with out any assistance of the screw driver. This procedure will need to be repeated each time you want to move the shifter out of park. CAUTION: YOU CAN REMOVE THE KEY WHILE NOT IN PARK. THIS WILL ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO ROLL.

Permanent Solution: Replace the shifter assembly, although, I believe the new shifter will eventually fail. If you are mechanically inclined there is a better solution. Replace only the failed party with a stronger part. A company in Florida makes a duplicate part from aluminum and it should never fail. http://www.billettechnology.com/ Here's the part you need... http://www.custombilletstore.com/product_p/1028.htm
