SOURCE: top end cam and crank chains are off!

I can help you with this. You have to start all over again. There should be three chains all together. Two short ones and one long one.The two short ones are for the cams. We are going to start with those two first. The 90 degrees they are talking about the timing mark on the gears on the cams should be 90 degrees from the flat surface of the cylinder head. The easiest way to do is find the marks on the gears and then find the links on the chains that are different color line those up with the timing marks on the gears. There should be 12 links one color link to the other. Set those and put the tensioners on little tricky on those. When you are going to set the big chain the cams are going to move some don't worry about as long as those color links stay on the timing marks. They will move a little and it looks like they are off but they are not. Once you do that the long chain also has different color links also align those with the timing marks on the cam sprokets and crank gear.Install your tensioner for the long chain. You have to collapse the tensioner all the way in and install collapse. Once in with a screw driver pry in against the tensioner to realease it. If you fail to do this you will hear chain hitting the metal cover when you start it. Once you have this together you can turn the engine in the direction that it normally runs manually and it shouldbe free. Keep in mind that once you turn the engine you will never get those timing marks to align the way they were it still ok. Hopefully this will help. I have built a lot of these engines for my customers.

SOURCE: i put on a new timing belt.both cam gears marks

well first off, the crank spins twice for each cam spin, so try taking off the belt and try turning the crank 360 degrees and rebuild it again, other wise, a little bad news, the last straus i did a timing belt in, like last month had 3 bent vavles after the water pump siezed up and broke the belt, are you getting good compression on each cylinder, that would be another thing to check, bad or no compression would mean a bent valve or bad piston.

Look at this and see if this is how you did it. If that's not your engine you can enter your info to see it.

Need to set timing from scratch on 1993 Mercury Tracer 1.9L

On the pulley, they are marks that line up with a mark on the head. That is TDC for the cam. Then set the crank to 0 on the timing marks. Put the belt back on.

Need timing marks for 1993 1.6 Toyota Corola camshafts

If its the 1.6litre 4afe. Turn the crankshaft to TDC, ie. Tiny slit on the crank pulley should be straight underneath the 0deg mark. The cams, intake cam is driven off the exhaust cam by means of two gears. Installation marks. They have 4 holes in front of the gears. Front being closest to timing belt. Upon installation one hole in each gear should face upwards and the other holes should face each other between the gears. On the exhaust cam pulley there is a hole drilled through it, ie. timing mark. It should face up. Directly inline with the grove in the first cam cap. If you have 1.6litre 4age engine. Between cam gears and cylinder head there should be a plate. groves in cam gears should face the groves in the the plate.

Problems of gm

You can rotate the cam/crank into a positon that will not move as you remove the old belt, as long as the new belt places the cam/crank in same position as the old belt had them, it don't matter where the timing marks are. Leave your old belt on, rotate to a position that will not move or have tension on belt, (no matter the marks) and replace the belt. Make sure to recheck timing marks after new belt is installed by rotating the crank/cam back to timing marks, or just trust that the belt was replaced without the cam or crank rotated. Easy off, easy on, just make sure the cam/crank are still in time as the old belt had them located. NOTE: timing marks are there in case of a broke belt, or for a car that has jumped time. As long as cam and crank are held in same positon, and car was in time before the procedure, it don't matter where the timing marks are at during belt replacement.
