SOURCE: car will not jump start

Check battery voltage. If volts are very low, put on charger. In many cases, you can't jump through a really dead battery... not enough voltage gets through to computer etc to make systems operate.
Battery may be used up... if it will not take a charge, replace it and check charging system before driving. PS: use a charger to charge battery. If it is very low, you candamage charging system in other vehicle. Also,,, You cleaned terminals already RIGHT???

When that light comes on, it is indicating charging system problem which could mean alternator not charging for one reason or another like loose belt, faulty alternator, or yes, bad battery or connection at battery, for example. First & easiest thing to do is check all your connections to battery, which you've probably done, and make sure they're tight & clean. Make sure belt driving alternator is good & tight, and in good shape. Now boost the vehicle to get it going & test voltage at battery, after you take cables off. My guess is in your case, the voltage will begin to go down, indicating a bad alternator, that will need to be replaced.

2007 sequoia cranks but will not start fuel pump is priming new coil packs and plugs fuel lines flowing brand new battery drained dead in one day this started after having it towed

drain dead battery cranking is 100% normal !!!!!
we use a charger to diagnose and test all engine or FAIL hard.
not told order here.
why was it towed?
what does car do now , battery charged or jump started.
lets assume battery is now charged ( it must be !!!!)
and all fuses check good, skip NONE!@
then it still cranks fast.
does not start now/ yes or no/??????
if yes battery voltage must be 13 to 15vdc with meter.
if below that the alternator is dead, or its 3 fuse blown
or worse if alternator is PCM controlled

charge the battery with the tool named the same charger.

If getting a jump of which do I hook up first positive or negative

When Connecting jump leads ALWAYS Positive first, (Red), Negative last, (Black).
When Removing jump leads ALWAYS Negative first, (Black) and Positive last, (Red).
ALWAYS make sure you DON'T touch the negative to the positive at any time! (Loads of sparks and you risk damaging the battery).
Safest way I have found is this.
With the engine on BOTH vehicles turned OFF. Connect up to the flat battery first, then connect to the good battery. ONLY start the vehicle with the good battery. Wait 2 or 3 minutes to let some charge cross to the dead battery then start the vehicle with the dead battery.
The dead battery will need to be fully charged as soon as possible.

Jeep patriot runs well for awhile then won't start

Hello Pamela.
no year car, no engine type stated (gas/diesel, and displacement)
but does it crank? you meant no crank right?

jump starts, tells me the battery was dead.
then you ask way it stalls or not restart.
well it repeated, to the same symptoms did it not?

but my guess, is , it will not crank.
if yes, that is a discharged battery !
batteries can be good, bad, or only discharged.

all cars do that for many reasons,
1 or 2 tests and bam why.
1: rusty battery lugs. clean them
2: bad battery, (some last 3 years and bad)
3: bad charge system. is the lamp glowing telling that fact?
4: a bad key line,

if it always fails, and always cranks JUMPER cable jumped, that means it not #4

so if not number 4 then we use a thing called
a volt meter, if the battery is 12.6vdc or more rested, then the battery is charged,
if you jump the car and it runs and battery voltage
(that meter again across it)
read 13.3v top 15v all is well.with alternator.
is charge and battery lamp glowing running?
if below the alterator charge system is failing.
if the car dies, driving to work and Head lamps go dim the charge system failed.
if your starter does dead, just parked at work and when sleeping?
this is called phantom drain. (can be lamps left on or other things)

I think you made and error,
"car runs then wont crank" is what meant.
the word is crank and is super important to getting correct answers.

on a wild guess, no cranks.
http://jeepdied.com/no-crank.html

if you wanted wild useless guessing
here, ill do that. makes some happy.
the charges system is failing.
or
the glove box lamp sticks on and battery drains as you sleep
there 2 guesses
can to 50 more.

Jump start

I would say you never checked to see if the battery is any good

I most likely is dead or below 12.6 volts & you never jump a dead
battery,you try charging it

Jumping is not charging a battery, you need to own a battery charger

If the battery keeps draining or won't hold a charge you need
a new one, then if the problem exists you have someone do a
Parasitic Current Test to find out which circuit is staying on

1997 Monte Carlo battery wont stay charged after a jump. The car will warm up then when turned off won't turn over it makes a clicking noise when ignition is terned.

Could be a bad battery, and or alternator, if the alternator does not charge the battery when the vehicle is running your battery will drain causing no start.

Same problem. 2006 corolla battery might be low but tried jumping it and that didnt work. it clicks a few times but does not turn over and then just goes dead.

When a battery is completely drained, it is very hard to get them to jump start. You will need to charge the battery.

The battery is dead, I follwed instructions to jump start the car. When I turn the key there is nothing happening (not even clicking)

The battery may be too drained to accept a jump. I would suggest charging the battery for about an hour or so and see if it accepts a charge. If not youll need a new battery.

Car wont run.

Does it crank well and all that but with no spark or is the battery just dead? If the battery is dead, it either won't charge while alternator is spinning or the alternator doesn't charge well enough to keep the battery charged well. If it jumps and runs indefinitely, battery is done. If it jumps and dies, alternator is done. If battery and alternator are fine, and you have no spark, you may need a new coil, new spark plug wires if they are worn out and too resistant, pick up coil inside of distributor, or you may have some other ignition system issue.

Most times when an alternator fails, it starts charging less and less till the car won't keep running or it won't start the next time. If the alternator hasn't failed, the battery needs replacing. If your battery is 5 or more years old this is a very good possibility. If your alternator failed and you have killed your battery many times before replace them both. Each time you drain a battery to dead you lose about 10% of its current capacity.

If the battery is fine and engine will not turn, starter may need replacing. Hope I helped.
