Noisy tires very noist 18" tires on SE ... Anyone find a decent resonably priced tire that is "quiet"

Could be the tires your using.

Some brands, like Michelin's for example, use a soft rubber that provides a smooth, soft and quiet ride. For about 20k miles. Then it wears through onto the hard rubber designed to give the extra long milage they advertise. Problem with this is, the hard rubber is really hard. The road changes to noisy, the ride becomes hard and it feels like the tires are shot.

When you change tires again, do some research at TireRack.com and Amazon. Read the user reviews. Not the ones where someone just bought the tires and only has a thousand miles on them the ones where the purchaser has 10k, 15k or more. That's when the problems start.

Dont listen to your friends. Tires for one vehicle are NOT just as good as tires on s different vehicle. For example, I use Bridgestone Dueler's on my Lincoln MKX and Pielli's on my wife's Chrysler Sebring Convertible. (This same tire would NOT be a good pick for the Sebring Sedan however.)

Fit a less noisy tire. Most of the road noise is tire generated and there is a big difference in noise between tire brands and tire designs when run at the optimum tire pressures.

It is generally the case that the cheaper brands of tires will also be noisier than premium tires , especially as they incur wear. For example they may be fine for about 8- 10000 miles from new but then become progressively more noisy to the point that they become very annoying.

Do a bit of research on the net on tire brands and models within each brand (including reading tire reviews) and you will be able to select a tire that is less noisy than what you have fitted now.
Premium tire companies such as Bridgestone and Michelin for example have low noise tires in their range of products and both produce very good quality tires.

With tires, you generally pay for what you get. If you buy a cheap tire it will perform poorly compared with a premium product and will most probably be quite noisy as it begins to wear and the rubber gets harder over time.

I've had great success with BF Goodrich Long Trail TA tires on my 2002 SF GLS AWD. Long wearing, comfortable ride... got well over 90,000 miles on each set. (I keep them inflated to correct PSI and well aligned!)

Sounds like the tread design of the tires..some tread can make a lot of road noise on blacktop and cement...try this,find some newer blacktop and run it at road speed..note noise and the try it on older blactop or cement highway..it changes, it is the treat design..this is very common on truck tires and sometimes passenger car tires...if you live in a snowy area..do the test on a snowy road with no salt etc.that too will quiet noisy tire tread also ..good luck...

All tires have suggested manufacturer tire pressure displayed on tire sidewall along with other seemingly useless information. Tire may display both a minimum and maximum inflation. The 2007 Saturn Aura we have states the pressure to be 35 minimum, and 44 maximum, although ours uses the 18 inch tire. Check the sidewall to be correct.

There are lots of possible causes, and they can all be fixed.

One is alignment. If there is a bent tierod or something from hitting a curb, the front tires will be scrapping sideways slightly, and very noisy.
Very high traction tires are also very noisy inherently.
Wheel bearing will also do this, but unlikely at this new age.
Rotating radial tires from one side to another will cause excess tire noise because cords will be slack in the tire. But there is not much that can be done if that is the case except new tires.
Tire pressure either to high or low can be very noisy.
Wheel balance can do it also.

I am not sure I can help you much, I have bought, sold, used and abused tires all my life so I will try to help... First if you bought big aggressive tires that look cool, don't expect them not to make noise. Second, if you have ever run them underinflated and the cupping and adverse wear has started the only thing that may help reduce but not eliminate noise it is tire rotation.... Third aggressive tread is always noisy... And gets noisier with age. You have already aligned the truck, that is a step in the right direction. Keep tires properly inflated and rotate them often to square tread back up. Once cupping is minimised noise should go down. Just so you know I have learned about tire through a lot of personal experience. Don't by an aggressive tread if 98% of the time you or on the highway for the once or twice you may go off road... It's not worth it...

Every place overcharges so they can make money... $5-10 just to change wiper blades....
Canadian Tire though, is fairly decent in their prices, but then again, they've got amateurs compare to say a dealership...

Almost any 60 series 15" tire will ride better than a 60 series 16" or lower. Rule of thumb: as the sidewall gets lower the ride gets worse, but handling is better. Living room couch or NASCAR....you decide

Without being there, it is hard to say. You need to consider tire condition - large mud tires are noisy; tires over inflated will be noisy; a bad driveline u-joint will make noise; drive line bearings, wheel bearings all could be a factor. have a mechanic friend ride with you and help pinpoint the cause.
