Just bought a 2006 mercedes ML350 and as I was driving, the engine oil light came on and said to check it at the next refeuling. I figured out that the oil level was low so I add some oil. My question why...

all mercedes engines are designed to burn a little oil its normal for them to use a litre ever 3 months or so thats how they get the engines to last as long as they do i have a mercedes c180 and been told of merc that that is normal but if you drive it like a loon it will burn more but as stated above its normal

Do I need to change the gearbox oil? if so after how many miles. the car is Mercedes c200 auto.

Every 50,000 miles is a good bench mark. Mercedes recommends a specific oil for your transmission.

I suggest you visit you local dealer and either have them do the job, or supply you with the oil and filter to do it yourself.

You will need to measure how much fluid is removed to refill. The torque convertor needs drained to and needs a ( #40 ?. ) Torx to undo the drain plug.

Total dry fill is 8.5 Quarts US. You will be able to drain around 7 Quarts if you drain the torque converter or about 3 Quarts if you only drain the pan.

I usually recommend 30,000 to 40 ,000 mile intervals if the vehicle is frequently city driven or a grocery getter. If it is a mostly highway driven vehicle, then 50,000 miles. .

What type of oil should I use in my r350 - the display is indicating I should check the oil at the next fill up Thx

5W/50 synthetic oil would be a better choice! Quite expensive but w/ a longer life span than normal oil! Beware though, when u used synthetic u have to use it in every oil change!
A normal oil could be 10w/40 w/ 5,000km every change oil!

That'll solve the puzzle!

Engine oil light came on, on my mercedes ML 350, 2006 model.

IT MEANS THAT YOUR OIL LEVEL IS VERY LOW AND NEEDS TO BE FILLED. CHECK THE OIL LEVEL WITH THE DIPSTICK IF EQUIPPED. IF NOT, THEN ADD 1 OR 2 QUARTS OF OIL TO SEE IF THE OIL LIGHT GOES OFF. IT MAY TAKE SYNTHETIC OIL SO DON'T PUT CONVENTIONAL OIL IN IT IF YOU SEE A MOBIL 1 SYNTHETIC OIL RECOMMENDATION STICKER UNDER THE HOOD. IF YOU ARE UNSURE THEN BRING IT TO A QUALIFIED TECHNICIAN A.S.A.P.. HOPE THIS HELPS. GOOD LUCK.

2007 audi A6 CVT transmission

you can drain the fluid but you need a special refill tool from a vw /audi garage these are only available from dealers so my advise is take to one of them the oil also has to check at certain temperature (35 degrees celcious) this all done by diagnostic equipment . i live in the uk and i was quoted £105 to change the oil in my a6 its worth having it done than trying to do it yourself
