It could be one of two things. cam sensor or the cat sensors. but you would need to really need the ecu read to find the code the ecu is giving. even a cheap code reader will do to just get the code that is stored. as you don't want to just be changing parts.

SOURCE: Engine light flashes when accelerator pedal is applied accompanied by severe power loss and trouble revving up

the check engine light is flashing to alert you to the fact that the engine has a missfire in the ignition system, don't continue to drive this with the condition or u can overheat and damage the catalytic converter.

SOURCE: 2003 c240 check engine light is on,car runs

HAVE CAR HOOK UP TO A DIAGNOSTIC SCANNER TO SEE WHAT CODE IS.MOST OF THE TIME IF CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND CAR STILL RUN FINE.YOU COULD HAVE EMISSION EVAPORATIVE LEAK.YOU COULD HAVE A SMALL MISFIRE.OR YOUR ALTERNATOR COULD BE OVERCHARGING OR UNDERCHARGING BATTERY.MANY THINGS WILL CAUSE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON.HAVE IT SCANNED.IT WILL SPOT THE PROBLEM FASTER.

SOURCE: my 1995 mercedes S500 idles rough, and no power.

I had a similar problem with my 1994 S420.
Before taking it to the shop check the following:
Distributor covers, Rotors and Spark Plugs. That's what my car needed. Before I did it two "specialized" MB mechanics wanted to replace the engine wiring harness ($1,000.00) and the other wanted to replace Air mass sensor, throttle valve actuator ($2,000.00) I hope that's all you need.

Testimonial: "You hit it on the head. Had same problem with my '95 S500. diagnosed as bad fuel rotors. Explained to me there is one per cylinder, and were all origi"

SOURCE: mercedes clk 270 cdi check engine light

hi, unfortunately this is one of them how longs a piece of string things, you could purchase a code reader reset the error code but, what you have to think of is what caused it to do it in the first place, accelerating to hard should not cause an error ( i do it all the time in my car lol ) but it might be related to the 02 sensor getting to much unburnt fuel passing it which would cause the engine light to come on, though if the car is running as normal i doubt that will be the issue, i would myself on a car like that take it to the main dealer and get them to check it out, as buying an inexpensive code reader might not cut the mustard with this one, and parts being as dear as they are for merc's i would play on the safe side, spend a few bucks to save a load...sorry not much help

Idles roughly, then low when stopped or in park, then dies. Decreasing gas mileage. Slow to accelerate

Sometimes that's caused by a vacuum leak near the manifold area.

Sometimes air in the coolant will cause an idle problem. Air will keep the air temp sensor from sending proper info.
Hope this helps.

Got a check engine light? Get the codes read to find out if the misfires are on all cylinders or just 1. Could be ign coil, bad crank or cam sensor, or a valve issue

When u start the car sometime it wont stay running unless u give it gas but no check lights will come own

You may just have a low idle? Does your car normally idle below 500 RPM?

To increase your idle, simple open your hood and locate your throttle body. It will be found where your air intake connects to your engine. There may be a plastic cover over the actual throttle, and if there is, remove it. Then you will see the small, shiny throttle arm that is connected to your throttle lines, which you will recognize as small cables. There will be a single screw that controls where this arm sits. This is the idle control, as it controls how open your throttle is when you are not applying the gas pedal. Tighten this screw a 2-3 turns and try to start your car. You may notice that it idles higher, and, therefore possibly louder, Try to find the lowest possible idle speed that allows your car to run without dying, this will ensure you get the best gas mileage possible.

Would an idle control valve cause a car not to accelerate?

no, idle air control valve is literally to control your idle speed.
what happen when you press on gas? car shakes, RPM goes up, or engine just bogs down?

1999 VW Passat low idle

replace your fuel filter first. If that does not do it, then try an air-flow meter. (if the check engine light is on it may be an airflow meter.

Engine runs rough after about ten minutes /idles really low

Just trowing some suggestions out there, but, I would check the idle air control valve (solenoid) or the throttle position sensor. If they check out then my last guess would be the map sensor or the vaccuum to the map sensor. Hope I was able to help. Best wishes.
