This usually means that there is an issue with one of the proximity sensors and you will need to park yourself manually until needed service is performed on your car.

On some GM vehicles, the radio has to be re-programmed to the vehicle because of the anti-theft system. You may want to check with your local dealer.

Its the tinyest little cylinder of metal that clicks out of the way when you hit the brake and it gets weak over time. yes you can move the shifter side to side but the solenoid thing gets in the way of geting out of park. I'm not sure if you can buy just the solenoid but it was pretty cheap and easy to just change the whole shifter.

So you have the car diagnosed for that issue

A shop will look up the test procedure in their data
base,check for codes & do what is required to find
the fault

If the digital indicator shows its in drive it won't start. This is because the car, like the indicator, thinks the car is not in park. Sounds like a loose connection.
