2003 Chev Cavalier 140K suddenly acted like it wasn't getting gas. I put it in park and was able to rev the engine but when I put it in drive I had the same problem. Went into the store came out and the car would start but would die right away. I tried to hit the gas but it was like it wasn't getting any. No lights came on so where would you start? Fuel filter or pump or neither?

NO SIMPLE SOLUTIONS HERE NEED 3 THINGS FOR CAR TO RUN AIR SPARK AND GAS COULD BE A COOUPLE CLOGED FUEL INJECTORS oR IF YOU DO A LOT OF SHORT TIME DRIVING LIKE A COUPLE MILES TO WORK AND BACK OR DROP KIDS OFF AT SCHOOL ECT iT DOESN'T HEAT UP YOUR CATALITIC CONVERTER AND A LOT OF SHORT TRIPS REALLY CLOGS THEM UP...
AND CLOGGED CATALIC CONVERTER WON'T REV UP AND PROBABLY CAN'T GET CAR UP PAST 50MPH

I had a new alternator put on and ever since while i'm stopped & or parking my car is idlding and acts like its going to cut off. is that timing it didnt start till after put on alternator

Hi Cindy, need to check and see if the belt is turning tightly, they may have not done it,to check, open hood, start engine, leave in park,go to engine, find accelerator cable and rev up gas and see if belts are turning tightly,or have someone rev gas in car and someone watch. Also look around engine to see if they let something out of place, you never know these days, even at dealers.

I have a 2005 chevy cavalier i was pulling up to get gas when all of a sudden my gear would not shift to park so i put hte emergency brake on and killed the car now it wont start what could be going on

The neutral safety switch will not let you crank the engine in anything but park and neutral. If something happens to the shift cable the trans may still be in drive.

I have 2003 envoy. when i put it into drive(D) it acts like i'm in nuetral or park when touch the gas pedal. anyone have any ideas?

(Not a mechanic) First thing to check is the transmission fluid level. If excessivly low it may not move. (Usually check trans fluid with transmission dip stick, while engine is idling and warmed up) Consult owners manual to verify procedure. If your fluid levels are normal or close to normal, you should call a transmission shop unless you are or know a good mechanic.

My jeep runs fine one minute then wont take fuel all of a sudden.

Possible low fuel pressure. Should be 31-35 depending on which engine you have. Check to see what you have.

Was driving down the road and it just went dead. It's getting gas and fire but will not crank.

I encountered a similar problem on a chev 4cyl with a coil pack ignition ( no distributor). It would run for a while and suddenly die out and wouldn't restart until a 10 to 20 min. cooling period. It turned out to be a crankshaft position sensor going bad. On this engine it was located in the engine block under the ignition module on the firewall side.

Chugs, acts like it's not getting gas once warmed up. Idle's fine

This problem can be several things. When your engine is cold, your computer is in a "closed loop" and just pretty much keeps the engine running until warmed up. After reaching operation temperature, the computer starts reading all the sensors. If one sensor is not connected or is defective, you will experience performance problems. Most of the time this will turn on the check engine light, but not always. Second is the fuel pump. This too will cause erratic engine problems.

Have you checked to make sure the catylitic convertor isn"t plugged? Disconnect the exhaust and rev the engine is there a difference? Good Luck!
