Where is the best place to put jack stands if I'm jacking up the front driver side
The intent of a jack stand is to provide safe solid support for the vehicle while you are performing work on it. Going under a supported vehicle at any time can be dangerous.
- I was taught to place jack stands under a frame or unibody support point, and NEVER under a suspension component that could move independently from the frame.
- Block wheels that are in contact with the ground to prevent the vehicle from moving forwards or backwards.
THE PARKING BRAKE OR GEARSHIFT "P" ARE NOT ADEQUATE.
- LOWER THE VEHICLE SO THAT ITS WEIGHT IS GRADUALLY APPLIED TO THE JACK STAND.
- WITH THE JACK STILL IN PLACE, GENTLY NUDGE THE VEHICLE TO MAKE SURE THAT THE JACK STAND IS SECURELY HOLDING THE WEIGHT.
- When using jack stands, the vehicle should be on a level surface, and evenly supported by jack stands of the appropriate size for the load being supported.
