I removed the battery cables and reconnected them and let it set for a day or two. The alarm still will not allow the car to start

If I understand you correctly your vehicle will still start but bogs down...If this is the case have the catalytic converter checked if it is plugged this would cause the same conditions as you described.....

you got to press the lock or unlock button on the remote a couple times my truck did the same thing.

Unfortunately i wish it were easy to remove the alarm system, but then, so does every car thief in the world.you cannot remove the anti theft system in any car, contrary to whatever someone may say.the brain is embedded in the cars electronic management systems.but you can remove the fuse......
SOURCE: there is a non-factory anti-theft device keeping my truck from starting. How do i remove it
I would before you do that call a few places that install after market alarms---cutting may not solve the issue and could just make things worse--see if you can locate the unit (brand on the remote??) for a brand or model number.
Cutting without knowing may be foolish.

Do you have the ariginal key,if not check and see if the key has a battery. Change it if it does.if not you need a new key made ,one without a battery. Oh no fuse for the alarm,
