Howdy, several things come to mind, so here's a few things to check. most likely you have an automatic transmission, have you tried cranking in neutral instead of park? if you can crank it in neutral then the neutral safety switch/transmission range sensor could be your problem. also, when you turn the key to crank, do you hear the starter relay(in the underhood fusebox) or the starter solenoid clicking? the starter & ignition switch can also cause this problem. check all your fuses inside and under the hood. good luck.

Airbag light came on and the power windows and blower motor quit working at the same time

As three problems occurred simultaneously, there might be a common underlying cause. Check the ignition switch as it may affect all three items. This likely requires being familiar with testing electrical circuits. If you aren't, it is a job for the pros.

Ensure the battery is fully charged and the terminals are clean and tightly connected.

Verify that the fuses related to the power windows and other affected components are intact.

Ignition Switch Inspection:

The ignition switch is usually located on the steering column or dashboard.
Turn the Key: Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to different positions (Off, On, Start). Observe the behavior of the affected components.
Listen for Clicks: When you turn the key, listen for clicks or other sounds. Lack of any sound might indicate a faulty switch.
Visual Inspection: Inspect the ignition switch for any visible damage, loose wires, or signs of wear.

Multimeter Test:

Use a multimeter to test the electrical continuity of the ignition switch.
Disconnect the Battery: For safety, disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
Access the Ignition Switch: Remove any panels or covers to access the switch.
Probe the Wires: With the multimeter set to continuity mode, probe the wires connected to the ignition switch. Check for continuity as you turn the key.
Key Positions:
Off: No continuity.
On: Continuity between specific terminals.
Start: Continuity between another set of terminals.
Compare Readings: Compare the readings with the specifications for your vehicle model.

Voltage Test:

Set the multimeter to DC voltage mode.
Turn the Key: Turn the key to the On position.
Probe the Wires: Probe the wires connected to the ignition switch. You should see voltage (usually 12V) in the On and Start positions.
No Voltage: If there's no voltage, the ignition switch might be faulty.

Replace or Repair:

If the ignition switch fails any of the tests, consider replacing it.
Consult your vehicle's repair manual for specific instructions on removing and replacing the ignition switch.
If you're not confident in doing this yourself, seek professional help.
Remember to work carefully and follow safety precautions. If you're unsure, consult a qualified mechanic

1997 jeep wrangler wont start Fuel and volt gauges stay in the off position with the key on and I get no spark to the plugs.

I would suspect the ignition switch (electrical) is the problem due to the age of your Jeep. Sometimes when you turn the ignition key if it's really bad, you will feel a bit of roughness indicating the switch is breaking apart inside.

Turn the key from off to on repeatedly and see if you notice if the fuel & volt gauges work each time.

If you find it's not the switch, you'll need to check your wiring ground locations to make sure they are not rusted and are making good electrical contact. Specifically, a ground wire to the dash panel.

If all grounds are in excellent condition then you may need to trace the wiring from the battery to the ign. switch to the gauges to see if you can find any damaged loose or pinched wiring. A good 12 volt test light should help you to isolate and find this issue, start at the battery and work your way through:)

FLEX your wiring a bit and make sure it's still flexible. Sometimes your wiring can become so corroded over time that current barely makes it to the destination.

Good luck.

Jeep runs fine want shut off with key

Time to change out your ignition switch. Sounds like the internals of the switch leading to the electrical or lever part of the switch to start or shut off is broken and all you get now is a key that will turn to the off position but will not engage correctly to turn the internals to cut power to the engine.

Turn on ignition jeep starts ok sometimes spedo and idicators wont work unless you move key adain while running

There could be some play in the ign switch allowing the voltage to be lost in certain position. Turn key to run position, do start engine. Turn on blower fan, turn signal, radio . Wiggle the key to see if they go off with key movement. If so replace electrical switch behind the key and tumbler

Hey Anon, Is this a total electronic key,,(push button start)..if so, its an electrical issue. If its a standard key urn ignition. try some DRY graphite on the key.. it will lubricate the switch without the mess of liquids... put the key in and out several times, put some more dry graphite on the key and repeat.. give this some time to work,, if this does not improve the switch.. its time for a new switch assy,

99 jeep wont start and the starter works battery is good what could be thew problem?

Even though it's called a starter, it's only job is to turn the engine so it can start. (technically you could call it an engine turning motor) You need to determine if you have fuel and spark. If you can hear the pump in the tank running when you turn the key on then the problem is most likely in the ignition system or crankshaft position sensor. To do any meaningful testing you need a chiltons (best) or haynes (ok) manual and a digital multi-meter made for testing those items that make your system operate..

2002 jeep

If your battery is full charged I'd give a 90% chance your starter is the problem. Sometimes you can tap the starter with a hammer while someone has the ignition key in the start position and the starter will work. Also make sure your battery terminal connections are clean and tightend properly so the full power is able to reach the starter.
