A lot of the newer Volvo and Ford cars have Electronic Accelerator / throttle pedals fitted which play up when worn.

Many complete Accelerator pedals are compatible with the Ford Focus cars in the UK.

SOURCE: volvo v40 2000nx reg 1.8 NON gdi engine constant high rpm can having no thermostat cause constant high rpm or can a briken lambda sensor cause high rpm cleaned all throttle body cleaned idle valve che

Yes, having no thermostat can cause the car to run fast as it will still be set in it's "warm up" mode and will be injecting a richer mixture of fuel/air into the cylinders. There may be an additional cold start injector that just works while the engine is cold. You will probably use more fuel like this. It's not a great idea to run with no thermostat anyway because you get uneven hot and cold spots around the engine which is bad for it. Cheers

I have a v40 1.8 gdi x reg 75k but on tick ova the revs go up and down and sumtimes stalls can any 1 help please

It is most likely to be the throttle housing and idle control valve that needs a good clean, Gdi's are prone to coking up and cleaning these parts usually solves idling problems!

Hi,Volvo s40 engine revs up to 3000rpm by itself, and will also drop in revs from tick over, then just cut out.Any suggestions would be appreciated cheers

Sound like the idle air control valve(IAC) is dodge, could try taking off and cleaning with carb cleaner, while doing that take off hose by throttle body and also clean in there inc butterfly, go and give it a good blast down the motorway !!

Volvo v40 18si

should be a little single wire connected to the air filter box. located on the clean side of the air filter. if not it will be between the air filter box and the throttle plate usually located on the air duct hose going from the air filter box to the throttle plate.

V40 hard to start and will not idle unless I give it a little gas

We had the same problem and found it was the fuel pressure regulator. Upon replacing it no longer gives any hesitation at startup.
