My 2001 Lincoln LS keeps overheating

Whenever I am driving, my temp gauge will sit at right about its normal spot for about 5 minutes after the car has been warmed up. Then it will jump up to as hot as it can go for about five minutes, then cool back down. I don't know if my car is actually overheating or what. The coolant level is fine. The person who sold me the car claims it is a computer error and to ignore it. There is no way that could be right.

Sounds like youhave air in your cooling system.you need to start it in the driveway, let it warm to running temp with the cap off.if it drops when the thermostat opens add a little coolant at a time until it forces the air out of the system.hope this helps.

No your right change the thermostat and antifreeze and that should fix the problem about $30.00 do not drive till you do the work or you will damage the engine. also make sure the cooling fan is turning when it gets hot but only for a few seconds.

2000 Lincoln LS Overheating

The water pump is wearing out and causing the leaks also could be having issues with the impellors because of the wrong mixture that you had in it. Might have ice damage. It needs to be replaced. Check the hoses to see if any have seperated. And last, there is some variance in temp when the rpm changes during driving. This is normal. Temp does affect how the engine performs. In order to be sure though, you cannot go by what the dial on the dash says. You need a reliable engine themometer. OBD readers can access that.

Same problem in my 2001 lincoln ls.

youre using more power during highway drives, therefore more vaccum. check your vaccum lines for leaks which may cause the vent door to close/or open which may be causing your problem. if your temp gauge shows the needle in the center of the gauge while driving on highway, your thermostat is fine. check vaccum.

I have a 2002 Lincoln LS thinks it is overheating - not.

if it was me i would checkout the temp-sensor by the thermostat housing and it should not take longer then an hour to checkout the coil and the alternator also make sure the car has the right amount of cooling in it if it does not have sometime the car will ask this way too. you may want to try this website to see if they have you car listed if they do it may show you how to test it yourself it www.autozone.com nice car you have.
