Ok i have replaced everything that i can think of and it is really making me upset. i had a new radiator put in about 6 months ago and ever since then it has been over heating from time to time. well i had the radiator hoses replaced and the thermostat and it is still over heating. i really need help and dont have money to keep doing this. and when it over heats it has a knocking nose towards where i assume the heating core is.

Engine overheating? Try this procedure:

  • The thermostat can be stuck close. If you feel the upper hose very hot and the lower hose cooler than normal, it may be a stuck thermostat.

  • Make sure the radiator and the overflow bottle are filled to the proper levels.

  • Bleed air from the coolant system:This is best done by running the engine with the radiator cap off until you see when the air bubbles stop coming up.

  • Check the radiator fans: The easiest way is to turn on the cars air conditioner and turn up the A/C fans. Both radiator fans should come on when the A/C starts

  • Make a pressure test by using a pressure testing tool (available at most auto parts stores). Use the pressure shown on your radiator cap. Most cars are 16 PSI or less, so don't exceed that pressure. Replace the radiator cap if it doesn't hold the pressure.

Hi Kim,

I can feel your frustration. It sounds like you've done all the logical stuff already. The "donut hole" in your process would seem to be not changing the water pump. The water pump as you might imagine, is responsible for circulating (pumping) the relatively cool water in the radiator into the running engine that contains the hot water. Hoses connect the two together. A thermostat is between the radiator and the engine. Once the water in the running engine gets to a certain temperature, the thermostat opens allowing the water pump to send cool water into the engine and hot water out to the radiator to be cooled. The heater core is usually on the passenger side firewall area.

It sounds like the water pump is the only thing left to change - if it isn't working - it can't circulate the water - and will result in overheating. Lastly, a clogged heater core shouldn't cause the engine to overheat - in fact, if the engine begins to overheat, you should turn the heat to HIGH fan and HIGH temperature to help remove some of the heat in the coolant.

Good luck!

SOURCE: 2004 NISSAN ALTIMA 2.5 NO CABIN HEAT..ENGINE AT OPERATING TEMP.

If the engine is not over heating than most lilely it isn't the thermostat or waterpump that is causing the problem. Check the heater hose coming out of the manifold and see if it is warm to hot. Next check the return line from the heater if it is still cold or moch cooler than the inlet, the most possible problem is the heater water control valve if this model has one or possible the core of the heater is plugg with slime cause by some antifreezes setting during the summer months while not being used. If this is the case than remove tihe two hoses and back flush the heater core with water pressure until it runs clear. I have had this problem before and this cured my problem. I also had to flush the engine and radatior also. Hope this help. .

SOURCE: I have a 94 nissan altima that overheats. I

sounds like where the water pump meets the engine has warped or the gasket has been blown. Since the water pump has to come out anyway to fix it then i would suggest replacing the pump. It is 30 to 40 more.

SOURCE: nissan path 95, boiling near to over heating

It certainly can cause the condition, but so can TONS of other items: coolant level, bubbles in the coolant (air bleeds), reaiator restrictions.

You could test the thermostat, pull it and put into measured temprature water and observe it as you raise the temprature...

SOURCE: 92 Nissan stanza has overheating problem. Radiator

Are you losing coolant? If yes, then go for a radiator compression test. You might have a bad cylinder head gasket.

A/t ecu fuse keep blowing out nissan exterra 2007 when start the car and car still running but kid of loose power when driving

Possible shorted transmission harness or transmission shift solenoids. Disconnect the big connector at the transmission under the car and see if the short stops and fuses don't go.

What could cause my 2000 Nissan exterra to overheat while idling? I have replaced the clutch fan, censor and thermostat

Don't know where you're located, Tamela, but warmer climates & idling, don't go very well together. if you're idling for long time, maybe shut the engine off. Or maybe a little more rev on the idle speed. good luck!

Car overheating replaced everything and still overheats

try a pressure test on the radiator while it engine is running.. If your head gasket is broken the compression of the engine goes into the cooling system. If the pressure rapidy increases it would indicate a head gasket problem.

Ive changed most componan to keep it from overheating still the same

Please list the components you have changed.
Check the following:
1) Radiator pressure cap.2) Cooling system for leaks.3) Make sure radiator fan cuts in when up to temperature.4) Make sure that no bubbles are pushed out of radiator with cap off and engine running. If this happens, then perform a pressure test. You likely have a failed head gasket.
5) Inspect inside of radiator for signs of corrosion. If heavy corrosion is present, then blockages within the radiator could have occurred.5) Check thermostat operation.6) Make sure that no modifications have blocked the radiator's air flow.7) Make sure that any under engine cowlings are still present. If these have been removed and not replaced, then airflow through the radiator can be affected on some models.

I have a 97 nissan maxima that is leaking coolant immediately after i put it in. i have a new radiator and have had the hoses checked and a pressure tests done on the radiator also the heat in the car

if you cant see it leaking, it could just need a coolant system flush to clear anything out that could be clogging it. get it towed to a shop to get it flushed. if you see it leaking, find the source and correct it! look at the drain plug at the bottom corner of the radiator, could be lose which would cause massive amounts of loss because thats where it is emptied for normal maintenance.

1999 grand cherokee laredo overheating when idling for 15 min. or so. Not when driving, everything ok. radiator replaced about 8-9 months ago, water pump pretty new, and extra electric fan worked on about...

Chanches are it is probably the fan. Anything over 15 miles an hour the fan is no longer needed. I would get a cheap hydrometer and make sure your antifreeze is still good.

2005 nissan exterra antifreeze in transmission

If you have less then 80,000 miles Nissan should cover the issue. You need a new Transsion and radiator at the same time. Coo;ant has gotten into the trans from the trans cooler in the radiator.

My car keeps overheating..I changed the thermostat but the gauge is still all the way to hot..could it be the water pump?

Probly not. Unless the pump is run by it's own belt which broke. Usually , a pump is good till it starts leaking all over the place.
Please explain overheating problem more. Is it while you are driving , or when you are stoped in trafic. Does it heat up and overheat very quickly after you start the car. Is it really overheating , or is your guage just showing overheat.
