2006 Jeep Commander Tail light

My passanger side tail light wont light up. I replaced the bulbs and it still won't light. It lights up when i brake and turn on my turning signal, so I am unsure on the problem.

Hi, please check the working drivers side bulbs to make sure they are the same any signs number- also look for any signs of bad connection like burnt wires or socket try a good bulb in the passenger hole and see what happens

The tail light circuit is separate from the brake and turn signal circuit. Either the bulb socket has gone bad or a wire has flaked out. Check for voltage at the socket on either pin base when you have your parking lights on. If voltage is present, it is either a worn socket failing to hold the bulb properly, or another bad bulb. If no voltage, determine which wire on the other side is tail light power, and run a new wire across to the side that isn't working and connect it to provide power.

Id look at the headlight switch and do some voltage tests to see whats coming out of there. Pay close attention to any wires which look like someone was in there already.People can mess stuff up faster and better than the vehicle can by itself!

SOURCE: the tail lights are out, so the brake lights-Jeep Grand Cherokee

i have a 2002 jeep grand cherokee i had the same problem when i would apply my brakes when the headlights were on my brake lights would go out, i found that my bulbsocket was not making good contact with the socket housing, if you notice when you take off a bulb, look at the light fixture where you unscrewed your breaklight bulb you will notice 3 medal contacts-they should be silver in the socket housing and like a copper on the socket bulb, in the socket housing their should be 2 silver contacts together and 1 by itself the one that looks by itself is making bad contact with the copper one thats by itself on the bulb, what you can do for a quick fix is; get a small piece of low cage wire or a thin piece of metal like copper stick that in to the bottom or top of that metal contact--i did it through the bottom leave the wire or piece of medal sticking out enough for where it can get contact with the bulb (just a little wire is enough to make contact, now screw the bulb on and test it---it will work----i did it to mine, if you need more assistance let me know [email protected]

SOURCE: Tail lights work, but not one brake light when braking at night.

2001 jeep grand cherokee left brake does not work period. I replaced bulb to no avail. the entire tail lamp assembly looked brown as though it heated up. However, the tail light, signal light and back-up lights still work. Please help.

Passanger side taillight is out. Turn signal and brake light still works. Tested light socket it still works.

Probably the bulb.

Combo tail light/turn signal/brake light bulbs are dual filaments.

The tail light (which is one filament) is on more often than the others (which are the second filament, which is brighter).

The light assembly is grounded to the body through the mounting screws. It sounds as though it is a bad ground. You could run a ground wire to a bolt on the frame from a mounting screw to check for aground problem.

Brake lights ,tail lights wont work i have replaced fuses, bulbs

Check fuses, I believe that the WJ's (99-04) ran a separate circuit for bake lights. Not sure if they did same for the ZJ's (93-98)

Right brake light out; tail light works fine

most rear tail lights and turn/stop lights are the same dual filiment bulb. it is possible for your tail light to work and your brake light not to and still have a bad bulb. I would check the bulb first, your brake light works on the left yes? this would mean that the fuse is fine

Break kight burned out

Open the liftgat and you should see the screws on the side of the lamp. Unscrew then and pull the lamp away from the vehicle. There should be sockets in the tailamp that screw in and out about the size on a half dollar. Pull this out and pull the bulb out straight and replace by pushing in a new bulb. Follow these directions backwards to replace the lamp. Hope this helps.
