I have a 2008 nissan sentra and the gears are lagging when I accelerate the vehicle. I don't have an engine light on and the catalytic converter was replaced about 6 months ago. It sounds like it is trying really hard to accelerate. Why is the transmission lagging on gear changes

To have to replace an Exhaust Converter in less than 10 to
14 years, tells me the vehicle has not run well most of the time
you have owned it

Cylinder misfires, vacuum leaks or rich fuel mixture, ruined it

The trans fluid HAS to be changed every 3 years or 30,000
miles or it WILL Fail, I guarantee you, having once owned a
trans shop

Check the fluid & if you don't have over 60,000 miles on it ,
change it
DO NOT HAVE IT FLUSHED ---just drop the pan---

Have to get the motor running correctly, before you have control
over the shift strategy, also.

The trans take special fluid-- so be careful

Read your Maintenance Manual about CVT Fluid

It should say 60,000 or 30,000 if you tow etc

I would do it every 30 to 40,000 max, on ALL Vehicles
regardless of trans model or fluid type

For now --ALL Nissan's HAVE to use the dealer fluid to be safe

In a couple years the aftermarket will have it & so will Wal.Mart

SOURCE: brake light, 2008 Nissan Sentra

Open the trunk and locate the trim door that covers the back of the drivers side tail light assembly. Open the door and locate the bulb holder. The bulb holder can be removed from the tail light assembly housing by turning counter clockwise 1/4 turn. Holding the bulb holder in one hand, press gently on the bulb and turn then bulb counter clockwise to remove. Replace with a combo bulb and reverse proceedure to re-install.

SOURCE: How do I change brake light bulb of Nissan Sentra 2008

Was able to complete this job successfully:
It's a little tricky to do without pictures, but I don't have any available right now.

  1. Access the trunk
  2. Remove the material covering the light. You'll need to remove the black pegs by lifting the centre part. A flathead screw-driver will help. There are 2 to remove -- one directly behind the brake light and another at the top of the trunk.
  3. Pull back the material to expose the brake light wiring and the metal frame of the car.
  4. There are 2 nuts / screws to remove near the entrance of the trunk. Both are about 4 inches apart and hold the tail light's cover in place. Remove both.
  5. Using a bit of force, you will be able to pull off the entire tail light from the frame of the car. This is done on the exterior of the car.
  6. Rotate the problematic light from it's housing (it should come off with ease) and pull it out of the socket. Brake light and indicator are a 3057K bulb.

SOURCE: 04 nissan sentra shifting hard

Do you have a CVT? (Continuosly Variable Transmission) I doubt that you do so if you dont, nissans are known to have hard shift into second gear you mean.(Once the car moves, its already in first gear) so if it shifts fine into other gears, I wouldnt worry too much unless it gets worse.

You will need a new catalytic convertor assembly. Yours is below treshold efficiency in other words its "no good".If you have it replaced, ask the garage/dealer to give you the old one back. Its worth some cash if its full. It doesn't matter thet it failed. They are going after the mesh inside of it and that is worth some $$$$. May not be much , but better than nothing.

1999 Nissan sentra wont accelerate/

Those are not valid codes, recheck them. Please check the fuel pressure under a load like accelerating, also check for excessive exhaust flow back pressure due to a plugged catalytic converter.. Also try unplugging the MAF sensor, if it is defective the engine will run better (almost normal with slight hesitation) but the check engine light will come on.

Noise and lagging on the gear changes in a 2008 nissan sentran

It could be anything. Excessive back pressure in the exhaust, incorrect fuel pressure or engine timing, clogged air filter or transmission failure. Are you looking for tips or instructions? What diagnostics have you performed so far? Is the engine light on? If the engine light is on there are stored codes. Have those codes read and forward them to me. Good luck.

Just had catalytic converter replaced. A week later the car developed a rattle while accelerating and the check engine light came on. Now the oil light is coming on while acceleratting

Sounds like the mechanic who changed the Cat Converter hit the wires to the oil sending unit or a metal shield on the engine that needed to be removed to replace the Cat was not put back properly and is so loose it is hitting the wire to the oil sensor... Get it checked out by a RELIABLE mechanic...

P0420 NISSAN - Catalytic Converter Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 1

The most common cause for the OBDII code P0420 on Nissan vehicles is the three way catalytic converter Bank 1 has reached the end of its useful life.. Since this is a very expensive part you need the code fully diagnosed as some other things like exhaust leaks or poor engine tune can cause it as well

Which sensor is the bank 2 sensor 1 for a 2001 nissan sentra?

Unless I am missing something the 2001 nissan sentra has two four cylinder engine options.

The bank refers to which side of the engine. a four cylinder only has one bank so there can only be a bank 1. A v-6 or v-8 will have two banks since there is a bank of cylinders on each side of the engine. So there will be a bank 1 which is always the same side of the engine as the number one cylinder, and a bank 2 which is always the other side of the engine.

Sensor refers to upstream or downstream of the catalytic converter. Sensor one is upstream or before the cat. Sensor 2 is downstream or after the cat.

If you entered the wrong year or wrong vehicle or if you can post the actual code I will see if I can help you further.

Your car does in fact need a new catalytic converter. And it should also not burn a drop of oil. It can burn oil as it seeps past leaking intake valves and piston rings.

I highly recommend you do not even start the engine again until the exhaust and intake valves have been inspected and replaced as needed, it has a new catalytic converter and a complete tune up.

Catalytic converter

It may very well be. The only way to find out is read the warranty and then take it to your Nissan dealer. My question is why do you think it needs replacing? If you had a check engine light come on and ignored it and this caused the converter to fail, they may not cover it. Only way to find out is to ask.
