My car just wont start

When the vehicle will not start when you spray water on the plug wires, that means that the insulation around the plug wires has failed. Replace the plug wires.

Ive got a 1998 A6 2.8 Quattro
Ive changed the gearbox and the vehicle dont start now.
the engine swings from the starter but when using the key it turns once and nothing happens thereafter the key is locked in on position where im getting ignition lights

On the gearbox. this is easy to find but requires 2 people as there is 2 or 3 plugs on the gearbox. put the vehicle in reverse and turn ignition on, DO NOT START! remove one plug at a time from the transmission while someone stands at the rear of the vehicle and lets you know when the reverse lights go out.
KEEP HANDS AWAY FROM THE FAN AS THEY CAN START ANYTIME AND REMOVE ANY JEWELERY. Good luck.

well, unfortunately you have found the limits of your pickup, my friend. I believe the only automatic transmissioin that was available on your vehicle was a 4 speed. Now, at 65 mph it should be cruising around 1800-2000rpm or so.
you have got a pickup, not a ferrari unfortunately, and to save on cost and to ensure strength of the gearbox chev decided NOT to put an overdrive in this transmission (this would mean a 5th gear). This saves you money and ensures when you are carrying that extra load in the back, then you are not stressing the internals of the gearbox.

first thing to do is check all your grounds batt. to engine batt. to body batt. to frame then have someone scan the bcm body controll module that operates the headlights ,int.lights, doorlocks, ect.

your filter needs 2 be changed. mite be too late. but try that u mite get lucky if you didny drive it 2 long like that

UNFORTUATELY ITS NOT A EASY JOB TO DO AS YOU HAVE TO REMOVE SUBFRAME TO GET GEARBOX OUT & PUTTING GEARBOX & SUBFRAME IN YOU NEED LINING UP TOOL FOR SUBFRAME.YOU ALSO NEED ACCESS TO A TWO POST RAMP HOPE THIS HELPS YOU.

remove sump and look at oil pump pick up pipe /filter sounds like its full of crud and clogging up ,if it appears ok renew oil pump Five Germans in an Audi Quattro arrive at the Italian border. An Italian police officer stops them and says "Itsa illegala to putta five-a people in a Quattro !"
