I was driving my '94 Nissan Quest for about 10-12 miles around town, I heard this horrible scrunching sound when I applied my brake. When I took my foot off the brake, I heard the horrible sound as well. Yes, I felt the 'drag' when I continued to drive. I took it in to mechanic and it went up on the lift. Front left wheel was not turning freely, but other 3 tires seemed ok. Mechanic replaced the caliper the next day, but that didn't fix the problem! He checked 'the line', whatever that is, and ultimately said the ABS module needed to be replaced. Very expensive at $1200. My Quest only has 120,000 miles and I love this vehicle, but geez that's an expensive investment for a vehicle worth about $1500. What if the ABS module is replaced and that doesn't fix the problem? Why wasn't a light showing up on my dashboard? A few years back, my brake light came on and it was an indication that I apparently needed new brake pads at that time. Is there anything else that could be causing this problem with my front left tire/brake? I live in San Francisco and grant it, car repair is expensive here so I guess I understand the high cost for replacing the ABS. Please provide any information that you think might help me.

Thanks William! I checked with mechanic and yes the abs module can be \'had\' from the junkyard. Actually, you can\'t get a new ABS module for this 94 Nissan anymore. So I don\'t know why the figure of $1200 was even brought up? It does creep me out to spend $600 (labor and ABS module) for a junkyard part, but I guess that\'s the way things happen today. Knowing me, I\'ll be paranoid about driving it on the freeway after this so-called junkyard part is installed. I\'m so depressed about this :(

I forgot to ask him why there was no light on the dashboard... too late now as I'm taking it in on Wednesday.

SOURCE: Squeaky sound front left tire and 4Wheel Drive will not turn on

the squeak could be brakes or wheel hub/bearing. most likely it is the bearing and hub assembly, i would not drive it , take it to you local service station and have then replace or repair the hub assy.

The fluid in the versa trak AWD in the rear is old and needs to be drained and refilled. After you drain and refill it, make a bunch of sharp left and right hand turns, then drive it for 10 minutes. Drain and refill it for the second time and problem solved. Use only versa trak fluid available at any GM dealership.

Where is the 4 channel amp located in the 94 nissan quest.?I am trying to install a stereo and there is no sound due to the amp. I need to know how to wire with the built in amp.

I just installed an after market radio in my 94 Quest.
The easiest way is to buy a Nissan Quest Radio Wiring Harness for Premium Sound. It will have the complete wire hookups. You can also hook up the blue wire from the new radio to thefactory (I think Blue or Blue/White) wire on the harness. That will turn the factory amp on.Hope this helps ,good luck

from my experience its sounds like ur front rotors may need resurfaceing...if ur doing that...may as well replace the brakes on the front as well...sometimes glazed front brake pads may make a sound but never heard of it as a grind, usually its a squeal...have ur dealer check ur rotors for hot spots in which u would need them replaced if they are overheated..also check the front pads for cracked brake pad material

Rotor life

No, the stuff installed from the factory sometimes is junk. a good aftermarket set of rotors will prolong the life of them.
