None of the gears will engage

Was driving my 1987 Ford ranger pickup when it acted like it slipped out of gear and then it wouldn't go anywhere, backward or forward. it has an automatic transmission. I can move the gear shift thru all the gears but the truck won't move. Checked the fluid level and it is fine. also checked the shift rod and passing gear cable and both are ok.

what could the problem be?

sounds like you might have broken a band inside the trans

will the car roll? also make sure that the engine is on when you check the fluid lvl. when the car is off the torque converter will drain half the fluid out. making it seem like there is more fluid than needed.

96 ford ranger mazda b 2300 with 2.3 liter engine 5 speed when driving down the road and shifting gears the rpms rise before it goes. Into gear

Sounds to me like the clutch is worn and slipping. If there is chatter when engaging the clutch, it may also be a worn throwout bearing.

02 ford ranger transmission slips on small incline when put in park.

Check your transmission fluid level. Add if it is low. Your Ranger may at some point need a transmission rebuild. This involves pulling the transmission from beneath the truck and replacing the individual gears. Rebuilds are needed when the gear teeth (the grooved serrated edge of a gear) begin to wear. When this happens the gears cannot engage completely and the transmission will begin to slip.

Could a electrical problem cause my 1987 ford ranger v6 automatic transmission w/overdrive not engage in any gear? If so what do I check?

possibly electrical, my opinion to you will be what my 88 did to me. i couldnt engage r or d so i decided to pull my ****** pan and gasket, and replace my filter, gasket, then fresh trans fluid to cure my issue. i drove the truck for a couple of weeks then decided to replace the filter and fluid again just to be sure. the truck served me many years after that tune up. i hope this helps you bud.

If it is a standard transmission then it sounds like you wore out the clutch.

Transmission won't engage gears for more than a second

you can try shifting it manualy, which will eliminate the shift modulator,if it works you are in business..although it sounds more like not enough fluid in it,check the level warm,if you are more than 1 quart low it will act like that.
