1996 Chevy S10 V6 why would spark plugs not be getting spark

  1. Clogged Fuel Injector: A clogged fuel injector can cause a misfire, which can prevent the spark from reaching the spark plugs. Check to see if the fuel injectors are clean and working correctly. ????

What does the distributer control

The distributor controls when the spark is required ( ignition timing) by the position of the cam block exciter or points and then distributes that spark to the relevant spark plug lead depending on the firing order.. IT gets it's order from the crank position via the timing mark on the pulley and when you position the pulley at the required number of degrees advanced that is required then the distributer (properly positioned) will deliver a spark to the right spark plug at the right time.

My 1991 oldsmobile eighty eight royale keeps dying when i drive it, I have replaced ing control moduel, fuel pump, mass air flow , cam shaft sensor, timing chain, plugs wires ect. do i need to keep...

With that much already invested, why give up now? How about the crank position sensor-was that replaced as well? For spark control and spark timing, the computer needs inputs from both the cam position sensor and the crank position sensor before it can know when to cut power to the coils for spark to occur.
Before proceeding any further, you should check for diagnostic trouble codes. You would need an OBD 1 type code reader or scanner for your olds. Any stored codes may help you find the problem.
You can test the ignition system by checking for spark on a spark plug wire when the engine is cranking over. Pull the plug wire off a spark plug and put in a clean spark plug into the wire. Lay the plug so the threads are touching metal on the engine somewhere. Have someone crank the engine over and watch for a spark from the spark plug. If you have a blue, snapping spark when cranking, ignition is good.
One last note: since it dies when driving, there is a possibility that you have a malfunction in the pcm-the computer.

It cranks but it won't start. I got a new battery, cam position senor and crank position sensor. took out the ignition control was told that was still good.

Check for spark at the plug wires to spark plugs, no spark on anything, then suspect a fouled job replacing the cam position sensor.

There is a misfire in my engine, changed plugs & wires. now it reads that the fuel leveling sensor is bad, will this help?

If there is a misfire, the cylinder that it is misfiring in will be recorded as a code in the computer.

Have the car scanned to determine which cylinder is bad. Then, replace the coil pack going to that cylinder.

Ignition Coil Pack Removal & Installation 2V Engine To Remove:
  1. Twist the spark plug wires off of the ignition coil towers. Mark the spark plug wire positions so they can be installed in their original positions.
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector from the ignition coil. CAUTION
When removing the spark plug wires, a slight twisting motion will break the seal and ease removal.

  3. Remove the mounting screws and remove the ignition coil.
To Install:
  1. Position the ignition coil pack on engine.
  2. Install mounting screws and torque to 53 in-lbs. (6 Nm). coilbolt.gif

How do I install a distributer on 1998 vortec engine. old distributer missing

Hi: To Install the Distributor Correctly, 1st thing to do is Remove your #1 Spark Plug assuming it will turn over have someone Turn the Key Off and On in Short Intervals.Either put a Compression Gauge in the #1 Spark Plug HoleOr the Old Fashion Way Works as well just put your Finger in the #1 Plug Hole.As your Helper Cranks the Engine On -Off On -Off.Not A Continuous Crank. When You Feel Air Pressure or See gauge Come up.TYhats when your Engine is a The compression Stroke. Now you Can Drop the New Distributor in its Hole.NOTE: You'll need a Spark Plug and Timing Diagram to See the Position your Distributor ROTOR Line it up to where the Diagram Shows your #1 Spark Plug Wire Will go in the Distributor Cap.If the Distributor Rotor is Not n That Position Your goning to Get Either Back Firing engine May Not Even Stsrt, To This Is Crucial. After The Know that you have The Distributor Droppped The Right position you'll need to Put Gap your Plugs at the Correct Specs, With All Plugs in Now You'll need to Put New Plug Wires on .And They MUST be in the correct order.Sitting inside your Vehicle #1 Plug is the Front Plug on the Drivers Side Next is #3 plug Next is #5 and Your Back Plug is Number 7,On the other side Passenger Front Plug is #2 next #4 Next is #6 and the Back is #8 Assuming you know have your Distributor Dropped in The Proper Position, Put the #1 Spark Plug Wire on the Front Spark Plug (Drivers Side) The Spark Plug Firing Order in Your Engine is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 Clockwise So the Next hole after you have #1 Plug and Wire on And Distributor In Correct Position on COMPRESSION STOKE, Going Clockwise you next wire will be your #8 Position in The Cap And it wil go to the Back Spark Plug on The Rear Spark Plug on Passenger Side. NOTE: Drivers Side Spark Plugs on the Drivers Side Front to Back are Your Odd Numbers 1-3-5-7 Pasenger Side is Your Even Numbers From The Front is #2-4-6-8 Is The Rear PLug .

Need diagram for 1998 Jeep Cherokee sport spark plug wiring

hi, you didn't say what engine you have, I'll assume it's the 4.0 L in line 6 cylinder. Standing on the PASSENGER side of the jeep, the spark plug at the front of the engine is #1, the next is #2, and so on to #6 which is at the back (nearest the windshield).
The distributor is between you and the valve cover on the engine. Pretend the top of the distributor cap is the face of a clock.
The #1 spark plug wire goes in the cap at what would be the 6 o'clock position, (as viewed from your position standing on the passenger side, facing the side of the engine). The firing order direction is clockwise, so the 'hand' of the clock (actually the rotor in the cap) would continue to the next distributor cap plug in, which would be spark plug wire to #5 (8 o'clock position), then #3 (10 o'clock position), #6 (12 o'clock position), #2 (2 o'clock position), #4 (4 o'clock position). So all this means isi your firing order is, 1,5,3,6,2,4 If you have a different motor or any questions, let me know. Good Luck! countrycurt0
