Yes it can contribute to the problem. run the fault codes first to make sure . oxygen sensor problems will also cause the problems along with canister purge valve faults.

How to fix code p0401

The code is for you exuast gas recirculation valve commonly known as the EGR this code potentially means that you may need to replace the EGR sensor or take the EGR valve off and clean it out. Carbons tend to build up inside because it is constantly recirculating exaust.

What is the smog equipment part between the carburetor and intake manifold on a 1982 Ford Fairmont Futura straight six engine called?

I believe your talkng about an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) plate. This is a ported plate that allow exaust gasses to be recirculated back into the intake stream. Attached to it is the EGR valve itself. Here is a pic diagram showing the assembly. The plate is listed here as a carburator spacer.

Getting po102 code, replaced maf sensor, still getting code. What else can I look at?

Check for air leaks after the maf also check power supplys to the mass airflow.the exaust gas recirculation system should also be checked out this has a close link with measured mass airflow.

My car is shutting off when i stop at stop lights or just stop in traffic. What could be the problem?I drive a Lancer 2002

It sounds like your EGR system is malfunctioning. EGR or Exaust Gas Recirculation is only supposed to be active when your on the throttle or driving down the road. If your EGR system is allowing any amount of exaust gas past it at idle, then it can cause very harsh idle or cause the car to die.

Mysterious disappearing coolant

Sounds identical to a problem I had on my motor this year. The EGR or exaust gas recirculation cooler to give it, its full name had failed. Basically a little radiator sits on top of the exaust manifold and admits some exaust gas back into the engine. Its water cooled and they do split loosing coolant internally into the exaust. Good news is its an easy job to replace not so good news is they cost £220. To check yours you need to remove it and look into the pipe that feeds the inlet manifold, any sign of water there and its goosed. Hope this helps, Neil

ok the fuel pump is working and you say it fires up with ether, check the egr vavle if this part is stuck open it will cause the car to not run also (Exaust gas recirculator) it has a tube that runs to the exaust manifold back to the intake and circular in shape with a vaccum hose attached
