Starter and alternator are new, when the key is turned to start, the dashboard lights and gauges work but won't even try to crank. I have wiggled the column, tried to start in other gears, checked all wiring... nothing is working.

hes right check the ignition control module.i had to replace mine because my cavalier would start fine one minute and the next it would be idling rough and backfiring. your best bet is to replace the control module.

could be a bad fuel pump...when you first turn on the key in the mornings in a quiet setting you should be able to hear a humming noise coming from your fuel tank it might only last 4 to 5 seconds this is the prime for the fuel rail going to injectors..if you dont hear this, i would take it to a shop to confirm. usually on most cars there is a dedicated fuel prime wire that you can hook up twelve volts to confirm that the pump is working, if the pump is working then it will be a lot easier fix.. because it might only be a fuse or relay that is causing the problem.

Good Evening. I can certainly understand your hardship of not being able to start it or even crank your car after all that work. What you need to do is check the trigger wire down at the starter and see if it is getting power when you turn the key to the start position and a traditional test light will work and someone to help turn the key. It goes from the ignition to the neutral safety switch to your starter somewhere along the way it just is not making connection. Try jumping the starter trigger wire and positive and be sure that cranks that way as well. Hope this helps. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask.

Michelle try the neutral safety switch and also check connections on the ignition switch on the steering column that distributes power through
Hubby and a friend took the starter apart and found out that there was in fact something wrong with the starter. So swapped it for a new one since it was under warrenty and all is fine. Just goes to show that starters can still go bad under warranty and parts place machines that test them can be wrong. They ran all the wires and checked the switches before they decided to take the starter apart.
