I have a 2003 Pontiac Montana with a overheating problem. Thermostat is Ok. All cooling fans are working properly. Water pump is OK. Mechanic is stumped. I have heard that this is a common problem for this make and model. Is there a solution?
This is my third of this model....i had 2000 venture, then 2003 venture and now 2004 montana. They all overheat. They fails without notice. My friends 2002 died of overheating, he put a grand am engine and unfortunately was put to rest 3 months later. Common major problem....i cant believe no recall on this venture/montana crappy vans. They drive comfortable but not for long....their tail lights electricals fails all the time. Am tired but i buys them by chance not by real choice...keep off and trade yours as soon as you can....
How do you know the thermostat is ok? If in doubt replace it. Water pumps are a even bigger what if. Did he do a radiator flush? Cooling system flush of the engine? Cooling fans come on at what temp and go off when? Replace the engine temperature sensor? 6 years old is bound to have sensors and such go bad.
I would say no. How is overheating ok? I would think the thermostat is still suspect as with the water pump. Some things new are still broke. Maybe he got the wrong temp thermostat get one that opens at a cooler temp. I dont know how he determined the water pump was ok did he measure volume of flow? And did he give you the old parts? If not sounds shady.

Radiator has been replaced, thermostat has been replaced, fans and sensor have been checked by mechanic and turn on at proper temperature. A mechanic told me this is a common problem with this make and model and that I should trade it in. Is he correct?
