Sun Roof mis operation

The interior control switch top is obviously dead when pressed; the bottom of the switch (when pressed) moves the roof back and forth a few inches, but the roof will not close completely

SOURCE: Door open light switch problem

First check to see if voltage is actually going to the bulb at the "dome" light etc. when you open the door... Then check to see if you have proper ground at dome light.. If not check wiring harness to the switches at door usually located in the door jam area.... remove switcvh and inspect for missing wires that go to the dome light some times the dome light is connected to a switch on the dash check this first....basics always first, fuses and connections then fallow the wire as a last resort..

SOURCE: 85 Toyota Cressida. The Sun roof is stuck open!

I was lucky, the owners manual was still with the car and it addressed this problem. Tells you to remove the cover for the controls to the sun roof. Then remove the screw plug that is located in the forward left side of the control box hole (Need big screw driver to break it lose). Then remove the slug surounding the inner adjustment screw, being careful not to lose any shims or washers. Trun the adjustment screw counter clock wise to close the sunroof down and clock wise to shut the sunroof from the open position.
Looks like the motor is shoot. To prevent this from happening again I disconnected the white with black strip wire to the control pad and unsulated the lead. It can easiely be hooked back up in the future if the motor is replaced.
Good luck all!

SOURCE: Sun Roof won't open

There may be a way to open the sunroof manually by turning the motor with a tool. The motor could be broken and "free spinning" or it could be off track or something is stuck in the track. You just need to take it apart starting with the interior trim the rest should be pretty self explanitory. You may also be able to find a diagram on www.autozone.com.

Sun roof won't close 2004 Ford Explorer

The roof opening panel is an electronically operated panel that can be opened or closed by the roof opening panel switch. Actuating the switch in either a forward or rearward motion supplies a ground to the roof opening panel motor. The vent and soft-stop functions are controlled by the roof opening panel motor. These positions are obtained when an internal motor cam opens the roof position switch, removing the ground from the switch. The roof opening panel has an express open feature activated when the switch is pressed momentarily. The roof opening panel is closed by continuous activation of the switch until the sunroof stops movement. This function is controlled by the roof opening panel motor.

2002 Jaguar XType Sun-roof one-touch operations reset

I had this issue and found the solution around, worth sharing and it takes 30 seconds: <br /> <span> <li>Press the sunroof switch forward to move the sliding roof panel into the tilted position.</li> <li>Release the sunroof switch.</li> <li>Press and hold the sunroof switch forward until the sliding roof panel moves slightly. This may take 30 seconds or more.</li> <li>Release the sunroof switch.</li> <li>Immediately press and hold the sunroof switch in the forward position. The sliding roof panel will move down and rearward to the open position, and then forward into the closed position. Do not release the sunroof switch until the sliding roof panel has stopped completely.</i></li> <li>Your sunroof panel should now be aligned.</li></span>

Hi.
I was having trouble with my sun roof on a 2004 Montecarlo. I had two issues water coming in and would not operate fully. I could toggle the switch and it would not move very far. this is what I found. I started to pull down the lining and saw that the motor was in front of the sun roof.
I found the drain lines on the front side corners of the tray around the inside of the sun roof. I found that the tube ran down the pillar's and out between the door hinge's. I took them off and blow them out one was plugged up. That fixed the water problem. The roof would move with help from me pushing. I got it opened and noticed the grease was hard. I cleaned up the grease and removed most of it with WD40.
Now the sun roof works good as new.
I thought the water problem was because the roof was not fully closed but I guess it is designed to have water pass by the roof seal and have it drain away. I always noticed water under the car after a rain or a car wash but did not realize iit was the sun roof draining.

2002 Bonneville Sunroof. Fabric on sunshade was loose, was able to pull shade forward, glued fabric but the shade will not go back. Seems to be hitting something in the back. Can you help?

Hi

Inspect the sun roof of your Pontiac Bonneville to make sure it's seated evenly on your vehicle, not raising or lifting at one corner. Lifting indicates the presence of debris on the tracks, or a damaged seal around the sun roof.

Remove the trim on the interior of your Pontiac Bonneville and allow the interior material to drop. Use compressed air to blow dust and debris from the tracks that move your sun roof. Treat the tracks using 3-In-One Lubricant.

Check the Pontiac Bonneville's drain tubes for clogging. Two of these run down the front of your vehicle to the bumpers. Two run to the back, most often by your tail lights. Clear the tubes using compressed air and replace them.

Clean the sun roof's rubber seal with a damp, lint-free cloth. Inspect the seal as you clean

Sunroof doesn"t open or close

Section 01-17: Roof Panel, Sliding—Electric 1996 Taurus, Sable Workshop Manual DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION Electric Operation The sliding roof panel (502B98):
  • is available as an option.
  • is electrically operated through the accessory delay relay (controlled by generic electronic module (GEM)).
  • is of self-storing design.
  • requires a specific headliner.
  • utilizes a unique roof console and dome lamp.
  • has an air deflector.
The electrical system operates in the following manner:
  • Two switches control movement of the roof panel.
  • When the SLIDE roof sliding panel switch (15B691) is rocked rearward, the roof sliding outer glass panel (502A82) slides into the storage space between the roof trim panel (51968) and the roof panel, exposing an opening over the front seats.
  • When the SLIDE roof sliding panel switch is rocked forward with the roof sliding outer glass panel fully back in the storage space, the roof sliding outer glass panel moves forward from the storage position.
  • The rear portion of the roof sliding outer glass panel moves upward on two lifter arms near the end of the forward travel, allowing a weather-tight seal when the roof sliding outer glass panel is closed.
  • An AUTO feature allows the SLIDE roof sliding panel switch to be touched momentarily to cause the roof panel to automatically move to the fully open position.
  • When the TILT roof sliding panel switch is rocked forward with the roof sliding outer glass panel fully forward, the rear of the roof sliding outer glass panel pops up to the VENT position.
  • With the roof sliding outer glass panel in the VENT position, rocking the TILT roof sliding panel switch rearward closes the roof sliding outer glass panel.

Can't open a 2002 Mercedes c230 kompressor sun roof

It's typically the motors or the special drive tubes that it uses. If you here a clicking noise then the sunroof became to tight and ruined the motor gears. You can actually switch the two motors, one is for the shades and needs less power then the other motor. They are identical, switch them. Nex make sure they are very tight to the 3 mounting bolts, there is a rubber washer bushing that wears out and alloys the motor to flex too much, causing the gear mis-alignment and gear grinding. This works great I do it all the time.

BMW X 3 Panoramic sun roof initialization.

title says X5, but description says X3. i'll explain for an X5, but X3 with the pano should be the same. and i'll explain function of the roof, not reprogramming.

button is located on the panel at the top near the front & center windshield. its the switch on the far left on this panel. its a switch that not only toggles, but also slides forward & back.

with your finger in front of the button, slide it back & release. this will make the cover slide back and store revealing the sun roof. you know have 2 options (tilt the sunroof up or open the roof completely).

to tilt it up, press up on the rear of the button and release. the rear of both roofs will pop up. to close, push up and release the front of the button or slide the switch forward.

to slide it open completely, repeat what you did to open the protective cover (slide the switch from front to back). the roof will open completely and stow out of the way. to close, slide the switch forward and release. pano roof will now close.

to close the cover, slide the switch forward again.

neat trick: if you want to tilt the sunroof open without opening the protective cover, press up on the rear of the button (when the cover is closed) and release. the cover will separate in the middle exposing about a 2-3 inch mesh, then tilts the sunroof open. to close, push the button forward again.

also, if you are above a certain speed (can't remember what it is off hand) with the sunroof open or tilted, it will close automatically, then perform the neat trick on its own to keep air coming in.

one last trick: if you want to open the windows and sunroof from outside, press & hold the unlock button (forward button on the key) and you will see the windows go down, then the roof will open to vent. releasing the button will stop the motion of the windows & roof.

hope this answered what you were asking.
