Turbos shut off

My 335i has a warning come up saying that full power can not be delievered and service asap..essential what happens is if im in a higher gear lower rpm and give it full acceleration a warning picture comes up of a little motor half colored in orange and my turbos quit working and makes very little horsepower until i stop the car and shut it off and restart it...it almost seems like it has a boost leak, bypass valve giving out or a fuel issue...any idea what could be causing this?

SOURCE: Warning light

Usually, the "half full" engine light is when the engine is in reduced power mode. The number one casue of this is a failure of the high pressure fuel pump. This engines fuel system is direct injection and operates at 50 bar (or 725psi). When it fails you only get 5 bar out of the electric low pressure fuel pump. Another symptom that goes along with issue is a longer than normal crank time in the moring. this issuse is not a huge problem the have repaired at the dealer and is covered under the facory warranty

There is an issue with the rear tail lamp bulb holders. BMW knows about this problem and released an updated part. Basically the bulb is not held tight enough, and occasinally loses contact with the holder. Your car should still be under warranty and any local BMW dealer should have the parts in stock.

you have good fuel pressue but do you have enough volume? when was the last time the fuel filter was replaced? and remember this if you replaced the injectors did you replace as a set? oem injectors have a 1 to 2 % veriation aftermarket can have 45% veriation so always replace as a set and get a good set. or you can have driveability problems. but do the fuel filter first and it is a service item which should be changed and this sounds like a fuel filter issue. if this fails to fix it first you can have a shop test the fuel pump with a scope to check the wave pattern and check both press and vol. second on a scanner you can look at live data and check the mass air , tps , o2's the o2's should be going above 500 and below 500 switching from rich to lean , the tps check % on live data they are 0 to 100% , these items also can be checked by a volt meter for resistance a shop would know the values of each. start with the fuel filter then rule out each sensor. proccess of elimination if you do it your self google all info and diagrams you can and take your time rule out each one you will find the problem . one other thing to do is when the engine is cold start it up and spray the intake with brake cleaner listen for changes in rpm to rule out any leak from intake otr vacuum lines ect. this is a always passed over thing .

Your oil is a little low, and the timing may be off a bit but if it smooths out after warm it is probably ljust

Chech the solenoid that operates the turbo, its located beside the EGR solenoid on the bulkhead, I had one where the vacuum pipe was blocked where it connects to the brake vacuum pipe.

My saab 95 1.9 tid revs fine in neutral when put in drive and pull of there's no power won't go above 3000 ram any ideas

HI Derek.

There are a few possibilities that come to mind.
3K RPM is generally about the break-even point for when Turbo boost would kick in. There is a dump valve on the turbo system that opens up and vents the extra turbo pressure under high-rpm situations where the boost isn't needed - say high but steady speed on a freeway. If the dump valve system is malfunctioning, then that anticipated turbo run-up in power won't happen.

Revving fine when in neutral may not tell you much, other than that the engine can rev. The gating system will (or should) run differently under load - whether climbing a hill or accelerating, this is where you want the turbo boost to give you the extra power. THat's where the exhaust gate should stay shut, or mostly shut, to allow the turbo to force more air into the pistons.

You might want to check whether the APC (Automatic Performance Control) for the turbo has a separate fuse. (The name might be different on your model, I'm remembering from my 80s/90s era Saabs). If the fuse is blown, that could also lead to lame performance, especially as I'd imagine that the system would be built to fail or go to full open if the APC fails or loses power - that'd keep people from having run-away power that they can't manage.

Hoping this helps

Why would my 2007 bmw 335i showengine fault warning running on reduced power

Is your oil level or radiator coolant level low? It sounds like the engine is going into "Limp Home" mode to save the engine.

What does the Dash board triangle "!" warning light mean and how do I reset it?

could mean anything from your windshield washer fluid is low to a bulb is out on the car..im pretty sure its just a warning light, u have to start up the power in the car (ACC) but not actually turning the engine..then use the button on the end of the blinker wand to access the "check control" this should tell you whats up

Bmw 335I Problems Humming in car. Goes away when

First thing I'd check is the power steering fluid level. If it's low, add until it's at the proper full level as indicated on the cap/dipstick for the pump's reservoir. A low level can cause a humming or slight grinding sound. If it's full, you could have a rack-and-pinion problem, a wheel bearing problem, or even a tire problem. Good luck.

2007 BMW 335i just had the "power reduction" message appear what does this mean?

It means that the engine power has been reduced - either automatically when the brain of the car has detected a mechanical problem in the engine or you have engaged the rain mode.
Usually this happens when you use a low quality fuel. But i've stumbled on rare cases when the Vanos sensor valve was the cause. The only way to precisely tell which is expensive and implies a visit to a dealer.
