DO NOT PRY IT UP WITH A SCREWDRIVER!!! It has to drop out. Lift console up, and plate drops out. Not that simple, but that concept.

You should be able to open the cover piece that holds both lights. This piece if you take a flat head screwdriver carefully, just pry the plastic cover (not the actual push buttons), and release it. You should now have access to the lightbulbs for replacement.

SOURCE: replacing drivers side air bag on 2006 pontiac g6

irst, You must get the steering wheel with controls. I believe part numbers were listed above, but bottom line, make sure you get the right color if you are ordering. The black one is called ebony. Prices vary depending on where you get them. I got mine from a salvage yard brand new for $75. Second, You must replace the clockspring with the column harness. If you have a light duty pickup, you will need part number 26101829. This is for a 2 stage air bag. If you have a heavy duty, order part number 26101828. This is for a single stage air bag. If you are unsure, take off your airbag and look to see if it has 1 or 2 pigtails connected to it. 1 is a single stage, 2 is a 2 stage. GM has reduced the number of part numbers available to simplify things. Therefore, you will get a harness equipped with an additional 8 pin connector. This is for the steering wheel speed sensor for quadrasteer. If you do not have quadrasteer, just tape it to the column and don't worry about it.

Be careful when installing the harness, there are about 14 connectors, I spent 2 hours installing the harness and wheel.

There was a recall on this type of issue. Check with your GM dealership for the recall on the gear shift indicator, perhaps it can be fixed with this recall.

2007 Pontiac G6 brake lights stay on when driving and when I brake they turn off. (Opposite of what the brake lights are for). I have had the brake switch replaced and it didn't fix my problem.

Problem is caused by a bad connection between the body control unit and the wiring harness computer. Remove the cover panel located at the center console at the left of the front passenger footwell. The body control unit is under this panel. Unplug the blue connector from the control unit first pushing up on the grey retainer clip and then pulling the blue connector out of the socket. Smear some dielectric grease into the connector pins and replug the connector. Put everything back together. Do this with the ignition off so no power is going to the module. This should fix the problem--very common on this vehicle.
