SOURCE: I need instructions on how to change the transmission fluid

for starters, if trans has not been regularly serviced , many problems will occur if vehicle has lots of miles on it and a service job is done. the new fluid has new detergents and better viscosity and causes metal / clutch particles to break free inside trans and stop filter up or stick valves in valve body. ( judgment call on owners part) , if lots miles and never serviced i would leave alone and just keep fluid topped off .
to service the transmission, first go to parts house and tell them the yr,model, make of vehicle. put vehicle on lift or jacks and there will be a large flat pan on the trans., pull all the ten mm bolts out , one left last to slowly let pan finish draining slowwly. make sure the vehicle hasnt been started or driven for a very short time as the fluid would then be hot and burn you. once the pan is off the trans. , there will be a large filter , it has a large rubber/steel groumet/seal that it pushes into. A flat head screwdriver can be put next to the neck of the filter and use the transmission case as a pry point to make the filter pop out of the filter seal. once this is done , the old seal for the filter needs to be removed. use the flat head screwdriver again and it will pop out of the hole its it, just dont get to ruff with it. put the tip into the seal neck and use the shaft of the screwdriver as leverage against the hole the fitler pushes into. next put a little lube of any kind on new seal on filter and with seal on filter push the filter into the hole until seated fully. next clean pan/and magnet inside pan thouroughly , wipe off the pan rail of trans case very well , leaving oil there will let pan gasket tear easy. causing leak. let oil drip awile before trying to put pan gasket and pan back on . i use break cleaner at auto parts alot to do all the cleaning. make shure bolt holes on pan are not domed from pan bolts over tightened previously. a ball pean hammers smaller end can be put ontop of bolt hole using another hammer to flatten raised bolt hole so that pan rail where gasket fits is flat. put 10mm bolt back using torque wrench at 110-140 inch pounds or till tight with ratchet and socket. dont overtighten , watch gasket between pan and trans case as you tighten bolts. if over tightening bolts, the gasket will squish out and cause a leak. let car down and put 4 quarts fluid it (dexron 3 fluid is ok) . after the 4 , start engine and with foot on brake , shift rev. to fwd a couple times and reckeck fluid till full.

SOURCE: Hello there There is a chattering

The chattering sounds like some thing loose, like a mounting bracket. or the shafts end play is excessive, there can be bearing failure at high mileage in the supercharger, The bearings are lubed by the engine oil while running check for oil leaks in the line to the supercharger.

this sounds like you have a deffective clucth release bearing. in order to change it, the transmission will have to be remove. this may have been the result of moisture in the bearing cause by the snow. to avoid such situation again it is advisable that you park your vehicle in a covered and enclosed garage

PROBLEMS LISTED BELOW!!

Air conditioner: If the air conditioner gradually stops cooling and/or the airflow from the vents decreases, the computer (PCM) may not be sending a signal to the compressor clutch relay to cycle off, which causes the AC evaporator to freeze up. (1991-95)

Automatic transmission: If the transmission will not engage when first started, chances are the torque converter is draining down. Chrysler will correct the problem by installing a check valve. (1993)

Automatic transmission: If the transmission won't upshift in cool weather, it is probably due to defective cast iron seal rings in the governor drive. (1992-94)

Engine fan noise: In warm weather, the fan makes a roaring sound. Dodge will replace the fan, the fan clutch, and, on max cooling systems, the radiator cap. (All)

Exhaust backfire: Exhaust backfire and/or a popping noise in the exhaust may be caused by a defective Powertrain Control Module. (1994-95)

Oil leak: Rear main seals on 2.5- and 4.0-liter engines are prone to leakage. To prevent future failures, Chrysler has a rubber plug available that goes in a hole above the starter that protects the rear main seal. (1996)

Oil leak: Oil leak at the filter on 3.9-, 5.2-, and 5.9-liter engines is likely due to a warped adapter plate. (1995)

Oil pump: Oil pump gear wear results in bucking and surging when the engine is warm and lack of lubrication when the engine is cold. (1992-93)

Rough idle: Because of a problem with the idle air control motor, the engine idles rough, stalls at low speeds or when decelerating, especially in warm weather. (1992-94)

Suspension noise: Front ball joints wear prematurely forcing relacement of lower control arm as well. Replacement joint with grease fitting is now available. (1990-96)

Transaxle leak: Automatic transmission fluid leaks from the speed sensor in the transmission. (1994)

Water leak: The roof seams leak water that seeps down behind the dashboard onto the floor. (1993-95)

My tranny slips some times but it will catch after a few min

SOUND LIKE TRANSMISSION FLUID LOW OR YOU NEED A TRANSMISSION FLUID AND FILTER CHANGE.THE 4T40E OR 4T45E IF YOU DONT SEE TRANSMISSION DIP STICK.BEST TO DO A FILTER AND FLUID CHANGE.YOU NEED 7 QUARTS OF TRANSMISSION FLUID A NEW TRANSMISSION FILTER AND PAN GASKET.I WOULD BUY FILTER AND PAN GASKET AT DEALERSHIP.YOU NEED A LARGE DRAIN PAN TO CATCH TRANSMISSION FLUID.IF YOU HAVE A TRANSMISSION DIP STICK. BEFORE YOU FIRST BEFORE STARTING THE ENGINE CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL ON DIP STICK.SHOULD BE ON THE FULL MARK.IF NOT ADD FLUID TO FULL MARK.THEN CRANK VECHICLE LET IDLE UNTIL ENGINE HOT OPERATION TEMPERATURE ABOUT 10 MINUTES.THEN APPLY BRAKE PEDAL.THEN SLOWLY SHIFT TRANSMISSION SHIFTER THROUGH ALL GEARS 2 TIMES.THEN PUT TRANSMISSION IN PARK.CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL.IF NOT AT FULL MARK ADD TRANSMISSION FLUID UNTIL LEVEL CORRECT.

It really sounds like your transmission fluid level is low. When you go into a long corner the little bit of fluid in the pan goes to one side and the pump pick-up goes dry. Check the fluid level with the car level, the engine running and in "park".

Knocking when engine gets hot and car stopped

Sounds af if you may have a transmission issue. I would take it to dealer to have it checked. Noises can be hard to track down even if you are standing next to a vehicle unless you have proper training in vehicle drivability

Engine stalls when you acclerate acts as if its getting no gas fuel pump and fuel filter have been changed

If the car starts and runs well, and then after about 20 MPH it acts like it's idleing, looses compression, and then the rpms jump really high depress the accelerator and see if it catches then then it should run semi nornally (maybe whining a bit, or sounds like a band whipping). You need to check your transmission fluid, this is the most common problem. Soon after you'll lose reverse, and then transmission damaged and needs an overhaul.

Transmission noises

Any time a transmission pump makes noise, it is starving for fluid or is worn completely out. Your next drive may very well be the one in which you will call the wrecker service. Always maintain your vehical. I would recommend that you change the fluid and filter and try a test drive to see if the pump has settled down. If not there is an oil treatment for transmissions by Lucas that is very effective in calming old, overused transmission pumps. Hope this helps, good luck!
