Hi Joe, I'm glad to help! The ambient temp sensor connects to the "Front Control Module" and when working properly will send the signal from the sensor to the overhead as well as other places that need an ambient signal. NOTE: Heres a simple way to see if the system is working properly. Unhook the connector at the Ambient Temp Sensor and the system should go to the default setting and the overhead display should read 40 degrees. If it does then the system is OK, replace the temp sensor. If it doesn't read 40 then various test must be performed to see if its the front control module or the overhead control unit. Hope this helps and have an awesome day Joe.

Does it start if you unplug the cam sensor? I'll bet it does. If yes then you will have to replace the cam sensor ring on the cam pulley.

Ford F140 4.2 Do Engine codes P0305, P0306, and P1518 relate to each other

I am assuming you mean F150 truck.
The answer is maybe.
Code 305 and 306 are missfire codes for cylinders 5 and 6.
Code 1518 is for a problem with the intake manifold runner control which could cause the other two codes.

P1518 FORD Description The Intake Manifold Runner Control (IMRC) is monitored for failure during continuous or key ON engine OFF self-test.
Possible causes - Intake Manifold Runner Control (IMRC) harness is open or shorted
- Intake Manifold Runner Control (IMRC) circuit poor electrical connection
- Faulty Intake Manifold Runner Control (IMRC) actuator
- Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM)

I need written instructions for installing an EGR Valve on a 96 Ford Exploer Eddie Bauer V6 4.0 engine. Trying to pass emission inspection.

zjlimited_986.jpg

Fig. 4: Exploded view of the EGR system and related components for the 4.0L engine (click over pic for zoom)

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

PFE/DPFE Sensor
This component is found on all engines, and is also referred to as the backpressure transducer.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Detach and label the wiring harness connector from the PFE/DPFE sensor.
  3. Disconnect all of the hoses from the sensor.
  4. Remove the mounting nuts, then separate the sensor from the mounting bracket.
  5. If necessary, remove the EVR solenoid and the PFE/DPFE mounting bracket from the upper intake manifold.
To install:
  1. If removed, install the EVR solenoid and mounting bracket onto the upper intake manifold.
  2. If applicable, install the EGR tube heat shield.
  3. Position the PFE/DPFE sensor on the mounting bracket, then install and tighten the mounting nuts until snug.
  4. Attach all necessary hoses and wiring to the sensor.
  5. Connect the negative battery cable.

EGR Vacuum Regulator (EVR) Solenoid
The EVR solenoid is mounted either on the same bracket as the PFE/DPFE sensor, attached to the upper intake manifold, or near the EGR valve on its own bracket.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Label and detach the wiring harness connector from the EVR solenoid.
  3. Detach the main emission vacuum control connector from the solenoid.
  4. Remove the retaining nuts, then separate the solenoid from the mounting bracket.
To install:
  1. Position the solenoid on its mounting bracket and install the retaining nuts.
  2. Attach the main emission vacuum control connector and the wiring harness connector to the EVR solenoid.
  3. Connect the negative battery cable.

EGR Valve
See Figures 6 and 7
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. If necessary, remove the air inlet tube from the throttle body and air cleaner housing.
  3. Label and detach all vacuum hoses from the EGR valve.
  4. Label and detach any electrical wiring harness connectors from the EGR valve.
  5. Disconnect the EGR valve-to-exhaust manifold tube from the EGR valve.
  6. Remove the EGR valve mounting fasteners, then separate the valve from the upper intake manifold.
  7. Remove and discard the old EGR valve gasket, and clean the gasket mating surfaces on the valve and the intake manifold.
zjlimited_987.jpg

Fig. 6: Cutaway view of a base entry type EGR valve

zjlimited_988.jpg

Fig. 7: Cutaway view of a side entry type EGR valve

To install:

  1. Install the EGR valve, along with a new gasket, on the upper intake manifold, then install and tighten the mounting bolts to 4-22 ft. lbs. (20-30 Nm) on 3.8L engines, or to 106-49 inch lbs. (1-18 Nm) on 5.0L engines.
  2. Connect the EGR valve-to-exhaust manifold tube to the valve, then tighten the tube nut to 30 ft. lbs. (41 Nm).
  3. Connect all wiring or hoses to the EGR valve.
  4. Install the air inlet tube.
  5. Connect the negative battery cable.

Hope this helps, good luck (remember to rate this comments).

My check engine light came on and went to Auto Zone and that said it has something to do with the vaccum leak that effects the fuel. What could it be?

If there is a 'vacuum leak', then a hose may be leaking or disconnected from a device such as the EGR valve (on older engines), for instance. Or, it could be a loose or leaking MAP sensor gasket:

Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor Removal & Installation 3.5L & 3.9L Engines To Remove:
MAP sensor (typical) gm-04-35-2513.gif

  1. Remove the engine cover.
  2. Disconnect the MAP sensor electrical connector.
  3. Remove the MAP sensor mounting bolts from the intake manifold and remove the MAP sensor with the retainer bracket and seal.
To Install:
  1. Install the MAP sensor with the retainer bracket and seal to the intake manifold. Tighten the mounting bolts 18 ft-lb (25 Nm).
  2. Connect the MAP sensor electrical connector.
5.3L Engine To Remove:
  1. Remove the engine cover.
  2. Disconnect the manifold absolute pressure sensor (MAP) harness connector. MAP sensor (typical 5.3L) gm-04-53-1527.gif

  3. Remove the MAP sensor from the intake manifold.
To Install:
  1. Apply clean engine oil to the MAP sensor inlet tube.
  2. Install the MAP sensor on the intake manifold.
  3. Connect the MAP sensor harness connector.
  4. Install the engine cover.
---
May want to purchase a Haynes or Chilton manual and study the vacuum line diagram to see if you can determine if one of the vacuum hoses is loose or misplaced or broken.

One can also do a visual inspection of the hoses to see if any are disconnected from where they should be.

I have a P0171 to lean bank 1 error code Upstream O2 sensor?

oxygen sensor, vacuum leak, and yes it could most definitly be if you swaped the wires of the firing order accidently you will get a code p0171 Check the tubing going from the air filter to the intake manifold to see if it has come loose. This might account for extra air going into the intake manifold than the computer is aware of. Otherwise it may be due to a faulty(or dirty) MAP/MAF sensor. Another possible cause is from low fuel pressure due to restricted fuel lines or a bad fuel pump.
