SOURCE: Back Hatch wont latch in closed position.

Have you tried spraying with penetrating spray (WD-40 for example) and make sure the lever on the hatch part is open? If you look at the latch itself on the hatch, there should be an open notch like spot where it lines up with the striker at the bottom. After spraying it well, in behind, all around as many angles as you can with the little nozzle of spray can, try using a screwdriver and move the little armlike part that swings down to close that latch. It should snap over the slot to close the hole. Then pull the handle & see if it snaps back out of the way. Keep working that back & forth a few times, then try to close it again. Your lock on your hatch may be holding it too, but lets see how you make out with this first. Let me know what you find.

can you hear the latch release when you try to open? if no clicking noise is heard then most likely a bad latch assembly. also check the rear door control module to see if smells burnt, if it does it won't send open signal. the module is located behind the plastic shroud on the left of the rear hatch.

Power Liftgate System Description
Liftgate Module
The liftgate module controls the liftgate motor, liftgate clutch, and liftgate latch based on various inputs. The liftgate module also performs diagnostics on these inputs and outputs and will disable liftgate functionality and set DTCs should a fault be detected. The liftgate module is secured to the motor assembly at the left rear of the vehicle. The module requires a liftgate position learn procedure be performed when replacing. This allows the module to learn the full open and full closed positions of the liftgate.

2008 suburban Stuck Lift Gate Lock

I have a 2008 Suburban with the power liftgate disabled. I have had the power latch stop working, and the BCM report that the rear access open when it is closed (both gate and glass). Somehow the liftgate module thinks the gate is open, so I cannot open the gate at all, and the latch and rear wiper will not work. To reset the control module I pulled the liftgate fuse (#20) in the instrument panel fuse box, turned the car on, off, reinstalled fuse, turned car on, unlocked doors using drivers side switch, and the power latch will function again - at least for a while.

2003 Saturn Vue rear liftgate won't open

The easy part is you just need the latch for the liftgate. The hard part is getting to it and opening the liftgate to replace the latch. You should be able to pull the liftgate trim off most of the way with the gate closed and try to manually actuate the latch to open the gate. You may have to go so far as breaking the latch from the inside to open the gate and then replace your latch.
