The radiator is located in a different spot. I am not familiar with fords at all. I cannot find the valve usually located at the bottom of the radiator to drain the fluid.

If you take the splash guard from the bottom of the vehicle (leave the small bolt on the passenger side corner attached so that you can just rotate it out of the way-easier to reinstall this way), you'll see a white drain **** on the driver's side at the bottom of the radiator. If you disconnect the upper hose, it's not going to drain the coolant from your radiator, just the top half of the cooling system. You need to drain at the lowest point possible. You'll have to jack it up a bit to get a bucket beneath to catch the coolant.

By the way, you'll want to take the radiator cap off so that air will force the coolant out of the passages. The draincock is a white plastic piece with an internal hex-head on the bottom, and a larger external hex head you can use a socket or wrench (either box or cresent) to loosen.

Where is the radiator cap on a 1999

Radiator caps are disappearing form cars. Filling of the coolant is done through the expansion bottle. This should be easily accessible and visible as it has several pipes leading both to the engine block and the radiator. It will have a filler cap on it as well. As with radiators, do not open it when the engine is hot. Only check coolant level on a cold engine.

Location of thermostat

Instructions Things You'll Need:
  • Container
  • Jack and jack stands or wheel ramps (if needed)
  • Screwdriver
  • 13mm socket or wrench
  • Thermostat and gasket
  1. 1

Turn the drain valve at the bottom of the radiator counterclockwise to drain the coolant from your Ford Taurus into a suitable container. Depending on the size of the container, it may be necessary to lift the front end of your Taurus with a jack and lower it onto jack stands, or use wheel ramps.

  2. 2

Follow the upper radiator hose to the point where it meets the thermostat housing at the front of the intake manifold. Loosen the hose clamp and pull the radiator hose off the water connection on the thermostat housing.

  3. 3

Take out the two bolts on the thermostat housing cover with a 13mm socket or wrench and remove the cover. Clean any old gasket residue from the inside of the thermostat housing cover. Pull out the old thermostat.

  4. 4

Insert the new thermostat into the thermostat housing with the spring-side facing into the engine. Install the new thermostat gasket. Use a spray adhesive to hold the gasket in place, if desired.

  5. 5

Reinstall the thermostat housing cover. Tighten the bolts to 89-124 in. lbs. Reattach the upper radiator hose to the thermostat housing. Make sure the drain valve on the radiator is closed.

  6. 6

Fill the radiator with new or reserve coolant. Start your Ford Taurus and allow it to warm up to its normal operating temperature. Check hoses and connections for leaks and tighten hose clamps to stop any leaks, if necessary. Add more coolant as needed.

Can't find location of low radiator fluid warning sensor on 1999 Ford Taurus V-6 DOHC engine

Hello:

Usually on Ford automobiles, the low coolant sensor is built into the coolant overflow tank cap. If yours is this way, you can spot the wiring and electrical connector attached to the cap. The sensor looks like a dipstick in the coolant tank.

Hope this helps!

I have a 99 Ford Taurus that continues to overheat. Last November I replaced the thermostat and it's housing. I also flushed the radiator out, but continues to overheat especially while idling. Does anyone...

start with the bascis, need good coolant in the system, if you have been adding a lot of water then you need to drain and fill with fresh coolant, you have allready replaced the thermostat, make sure you have no coolant leaks, would be easy to notice due to coolant on the ground or tracing, do you have good air flow throught your radiator assy, if the front grille area is clogged with dirt/bugs/debrie then it has no way to transfer heat from the coolant, need to check and clean it out, next would be to check and or repace your water pump, the fins on the back side of the pully which you cannot see untill you pull of the water pump could have rusted away which means no flow.
