I get a brake light and abs light at the same time. No other problems noted. This is a 2003 Windstar

Red lite comes on at startup to ck. system. If amber lite stays on, ck. brake fluid level and see if emergency brake is partly up. This shows problem with anti lock system if it stays on, not main brake system. If all is ok with this but still stays on Have ABS system checked. Haynes repair manual, 95-2003 Windstar, all models.

try checking your brake fluid level it may be low or your mater cylinder may need replacing, also may need to replace brakes, you can get manual for your windstar they are about 20 bucks ant most auto stores

O/D blinking indicates that there is low transmission fluid in the system ABS light comes on when there is a problem with the ABS system, most times the tooth ring has broken

scan for codes may be faulty sensor or wheel bearing starting to go
loose conection or rubbed wire

I own a 2001 Windstar. Your noisy brake problem could be nothing more that new brakes being broken in. I have done many brake jobs on my 2001 Windstar as well as other vehicles that I have owned. To prevent this problem from occuring, I apply a thin film of Disc Brake Quieter directly to each brake pad during the installation process. This quiets the brakes during the break in period. Something is wrong with the Braking-Traction Control of the vehicle. Your sensor is probably broken. You to need have diagnosed which sensor. Someties this is damaged when lower assembly and replaced. Take it to a professional for diagnosis and repair.

There is a problem with the ABS, (Anti-Lock Brakes). You still have normal braking but your ABS may or may not work properly.

Each wheel has a sensor mounted near the brake discs in the front and drums in the rear. You can see them without even removing the wheels. Look on the inside of the wheels kind of near the ball joint and you will see a small electrical cable. This cable goes to the sensor.

Abs light on means the ABS sytem has a fault.
You can determine what is wrong by counting the flashes (they say) and then put the data in on the web.

IE abs, windstar, failure, 3 flashes.

The brake light on is most likely picking up on uneven brake pressure, or a failing master cylinder/
You may not feel any difference yet, give it a little time, feel for a pedal fade at a light.

it could be a bad fuse, but is most likely a problem with your abs system.

Ford has a recall for this problem.

if you have noise coming from the pads sometimes this is caused by dust, an easy fix is to take to the car wash and pressure wash the wheels to remove the dust.
as for the intermittent abs light may be a bad level sensor for the reservoir. which would in any a need for immediate repair, so that real problems will be evident and you will not just ignore the light.
