I have got a tom tom sat nav and a garmin sat nav. On fixing them to the windscreen i find i cannot get a sattellite signal.if i hold the satnav out of the drivers side window the signal is perfect. As soon as i bring it inside the car the signal completely disappears. Does it have anything to do with the fact that the car has its own built in satnav which i do not have a disc for.

Actually yes, it is a known flaw with these model Volvo's. The backplate under the buttons in the master window switch is made of plastic. Over time it wears out and snaps. When it snaps, the windows will no longer go up or down as the contacts do not touch anymore.
Simple solution is to buy a new Master window switch. Should cost about $200.

Pull, and the plastic clips will disengage. Some will break, there is nothing you can do about that. Best to make a run to the dealer and pick up a handful of extra clips for the ones that do break. There are tools that help prevent the clips breaking but they'll still break and it's not worth it.
Testimonial: "Thanks managed to get it off without breakage - another handy tip use a push knife under the rear portion of the internal release moulding to assist"

Not familiar with the Volvo, but many cars (Toyota, Lexus, Acura, Honda, etc.) have drain holes at the corners of the sun roof assembly. These holes allow water that gets past the sunroof gasket to drain through tubes that carry the water to the bottom of the car, where it exits the car.
These drain holes are prone to clogging. If the Volvo setup is like those cars mentioned, you can see the front drain holes by opening the sunroof and looking closely at the two front corners of the assembly that holds the sunroof. I have used plastic weedeater line to open up these lines. Compressed air can also be used.
