Why on my 87 acura legend 2.5l the disturbutor will not go in on the #1 it go in on #5

Top Dead Centre on any four stroke standard engine is when piston 1 is at the top of the compression stroke where both valves are closed.

Locate the top dead center by checking the air flow out of cylinder #1. As the #1 piston comes to top dead center the flow will stop and watch the top of the piston until it starts to go down. It it has a distributor install it as it engages the gear on the camshaft. As it is completely installed it will rotate slightly as it engages the camshaft gear. There is a timing mark on the vibration damper pulley and when the pointer is on that mark it will be on top dead center so rotate the distributor until the rotor is pointing at the wife for #1 cylinder. If there is no distributor the timing mark will indicate top dead center.

With truck off, you can turn the crankshaft nut from bottom of engine. To bring to top dead center. Remove #1 plug and insert a straw or similar into plug hole on top of piston. When the piston just starts to go back down from all the way up, that's top dead center, The number one cylinder in the 4.3 V-6 is the front wire on the driver-side of the engine. God-Bless!

Top dead center and bottom dead center also known as ( TDC) and (BDC) Are two different positions of the piston while an engine is running. TDC is where the piston is as high as it can go in the cylinder and BDC is as low as the piston can go in the cylinder.

Firing order is 1-4-2-5-3-6. Back cylinders are 1-2-3 (passenger side to driver side). Front cylinders are 4-5-6 (passenger side to driver side) hope this helps.

make sure timing belt was put back on properly. I believe your water pump is timing belt assisted. If on wrong, you have a problem.

You either have a dead battery, or a bad wiring connection.
