SOUNDS LIKE TRANS NEEDS OVERHAUL. WHEN DISCS ARE WORN OUT TRANS WILL SLIP OR SLIDE INTO GEAR THE REASON YOU STILL HAVE REVERSE IS THE CLAMPING PRESSURE IS GREATER IN REVERSE THAN DRIVE

Try the additive LUBE GUARD for transmissions ,It is in a red bottle,and is available at N A P A,it will treat the valve body,witch is sticking.

Sounds like you have some internal problems. Depending on mileage, you're probably looking at a rebuild. Automatic transmissions use clutch packs and bands to engage planetary gear sets that are in constant mesh...there is not clicking into gear.
