My Car external TomTom doesn't work at all inside the car but it works fine outside the car. Sometimes the tomtom works fine without any interruption but when it start disruption it doesn't show or get any GPS signal, The tom tom works fine again if the engine is switched off. If anybody can provide solution or came across this problem, please, please help me.
Metal blocks signals. If you are putting the TomTom on the dash, and there’s still a weak signal, then there’s metals (or some impurities) in the windshield interfering with the signal.
Try having it held near the rolled down window on the passenger side.
If this helps, then you might want to find out if your model has available an external antenna!

you could have a short in the ignition itself, which as the keys swing back and forth causes a stoppage in the circuit, Mercury has had that problem for years , check all fuses, and with the wipers check the relay also, as far as the lighter,, they will short out , and most car makers suggest not using them for added purposes since they tend to go bad , they were intended to heat a small wire that draws low amperage,, enough to light a cig , some plug in units require more amps and will heat up the socket , which will then short out, causing damage
