SOURCE: how to replace the thermostat in my 2001 pontiac sunfire

Drain some of the coolant until you are sure it will not spill over when you remove the hose.
Remove the hose from the radiator .(Top) Hose. follow the hose to the thermostat housing. Remove the hose by removing the clamps.the thermostat is located in the housing. remove the bolts holding the thermostat housing. remove the housing. be careful to notice the position of the thermostat. Make sure you get the proper degree thermostat . Ask the vendor. give as much info as possible. mainly the size of the engine. remove the thermostat. You will get a new gasket with your new thermostat. Clean off the sufaces of the thermostat housing before installing the gasket.use a little grease to hold the gasket in place. and reinstall the new thermostat. replace housing and hose and refill with antifreeze/coolant. i hope this works for you and you vote for my answer.

SOURCE: Were is the thermostat located in a Pontiac Sunfire 2000?

Hi:
Your thermostat is located under the thermostat housing, which is what the upper radiator hose clamps to on the top of your engine. Basically, you need to start with a cold engine, drain your radiator, then unclamp the upper radiator hose from the engine. Remove the bolts from the thermostat housing, and gently tap on it to remove it. clean up the mounting surfaces on both the engine and the housing, and install a new thermostat, and new gasket. tighten to proper torque, reconnect the radiator hose, then refill up the radiator and cooling system.

Where is the thermostat on my 1997 sunfire

If you follow the top radiator hose back to the front of your engine it will go directly into the thermostat housing which is located at the top of the motor. It usually requires you to remove this hose and then take the two bolts out of the housing. Once that it done give it a little tap with a wrench and it will come right off. Make sure you scrape all the old gasket material off the housing and the engine block before you install the new thermostat.

No heat and engine starts to get hot, so am looking for thermostat location on 1997 sunfire

While standing in front of the car look left you should see a housing with a few radiator hoses hooking to it. Unhook the main radiator hose that goes into the front part of the housing. Then remove the three bolts and pull off the metal plate exposing the thermostat.
