P0138 is code for o2 sensor Bank 1 Sensor 2. This sensor is the one behind the cat on the side of the engine that contains cylinder No 1.

1998 Dodge Ram 150-0 5.9L V8 error code 1282

sorry this is kind of confusing,. sounds like you had problems that went without repair,

What exaclty is the problem NOW?
You could need to replace the upstream or downstrem o2 sensor, have a short at the fuel pump or along the way = inspect all wiring, especially at the fuel tank (where your fuel pump is located).

after more thoughts:

P0138 has high voltage at the o2 sensor, check relays and inspect all wiring leading to it.

p1282 is excessive injection control pressure - maybe some regulaator in the fuel line which is failing?
I hoipe this helps, if not please separate the issues, in some historical order with paragraph separation (sorry I am a little dislexic and it is hard for me to follow -- and hopefully someone can assist further?
Best regards

P 0138 code

A code P0138 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
  • Faulty O2 sensor
  • Short to battery voltage in O2 sensor signal circuit
  • High fuel pressure (not as likely)
you can get a code scan tool to clear the fault code

How to fix a 98 dodge ram 5.9 with a codeP0138

The Heated Oxygen Sensor (2) located rear of catalytic converter produces an output signal relative to oxygen storage capacity of catalytic converter. Ho2S 2 signal is less active than signal produced by front oxygen sensor. This code sets when HO2 Sensor voltage is greater than 999 mV for more than 2 minutes (time depends on model. Could be as high as 4 minutes).

Here are some potential solutions:
* Replace O2 sensor
* Repair short to battery voltage in o2 sensor signal circuit

Feel free to contact us in this DTC P0138 code link, if you need additional details.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I'll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using Fixya, and have a nice day.

Have 99 dodge dakota 5.2 v8. drivin down rosd engine just died with no warning or prior problems. fuel pump is working got obd2 code p0138 o2 sensor curcuit high voltage bank 1 sensor 2. any ideas?

I have had this problem with the dodge trucks. It usually turns out to be the cam sensor located on the right rear of the engine on the bell housing. it is a tight spot to get to the easiest way would be through the wheel well with the tire off.

I'm getting code P0138 on '99 Ram

Could be just the sensor, could be a bad fuse, or could be bad wiring. Change the sensor, check the fuse, and check wiring, or reverse order.
