I have a 1995 Jeep grand cherokee Larado sport and my engine will not start. It only starts for one to two seconds then shuts right off. what could be the problem?

It could be the security system if the security light is blinking while you are trying to start the engine. Test the battery in the remote/key-less controller or remove the fuse for the security system.

We have a 95 Jeep Grand Cherokee Larado. It was

Your starter does not actually start your car. It's only job is to turn the engine so it can start. (actually replaces the crank people used to need to put into the front of the car and physically crank (turn) the engine...hence the term "cranking")
The two most common causes of the problem you are having is either the crank position sensor or fuel pump has failed. Easy way to determine if the pump is bad is to listen to the gas tank when you turn the key to the "on" position...You should be able to hear it. CPS needs to be checked with a digital ohmmeter Best instructions for electrical testing can be found in chilton manuals available in most large parts stores. Haynes is somewhat useful but a bit too basic for any real electrical diagnosis. All sensors are expensive (min of $90 each) so testing is important so you don't end up throwing $ at it with no results.

Is there a feul shut in the gas line? or anywhere?

turn on the car and listen outside under the car.... are you able to hear the fuel pump ?
and there is a shut off ... for fords it's located in the rear compartment cover area where the jack is stored.
