I have a 2002 volkswagon jetta gls 1.8t with automatic and manual transmission. when i am accelerating, i am neutralizing in 3rd and 5th gear, sometimes even 4th. my car revs and doesn't want to go at the speed it's suppose to be. i have to accelerate very slowly for my car to catch it's gears. what is the problem and what would it cost me to fix it?

SOURCE: 1992 Eagle Talon Transmission Problem

hello ,
thank you for asking ,
i know that this is really a silly problem , but i am sorry to tell you that you better to get another transmission automatic gear box , because the repairing will cost you a lot , but if you found that it will not cost that much so it's ok to repair it , and if you have any other problem all you should do is asking me , and thank you for using fixya ,
have a great day ,

SOURCE: how can i check the level of my transmission fluid

Assuming it is an automatic. With engine idling, put transmission thru all gears, put back in park, keep engine running, check dipstick for tranny. If it is a manual then you have to crawl under car and remove upper "fill" plug on gearbox, fluid will be up to that level. NOTE: unless your tranny leaks it should never be low!

1st 3rd and 5th gears are spongy to shift into

Start with the firs post and have those cables and linkage assembly looked at if those are good then what you have is a loose bolt on the transmission that bolt is responsible to keep the gear in place when loose the transmission will do what you described as well nothing more nothing less.

96 escort 1.9 manual jerking while accelerating 96 escort 1.9 manual

best advice is dont go 40mph in 5th gear... if you are going up a hill at 40mph in 5th gear i have no doubt that it is jerking, your putting too much stress on the engine. shift up to 4th or 3rd you will be fine. 5th gear is an overdrive gear. 55+mph

COULD BE BROKEN DAMAGED FIRST GEAR SYNCHRONIZER OR RING BROKEN WHERE SYNCHRONIZER RING PRESSES AGAINST FIRST GEAR.

Mt 1997 vw jetta gls won't go in any gears

Hello;
If your Jetta is a manual transmission, the clutch disc facing is probably gone. If it is an automatic, there are a number of things to check. Is transmission full of fluid? Does fluid smell burnt? Is there metal inside the oil pan? Hope this helps and rate me high.
Thanks;
