Now it will not even go in drive at all and the check engine light is on
D4 light indicates electronic transmission failure but this can b as simple as low transmission or old fluid . change fluid if its dark or watery, before you panic.(( use only honda brand atf,)) if that doesnt work the codes need to b considered this can b done by jumping the two pin connector under or behind the glovebox with a paper clip the d4 light will flash once you turn the ignition on to first position' when dash lights first come on . it will flash then stop then flash again you need to count the first and second separately this will give you 2 diget code look it up exp; honda d4 dtc 34 just say google it , but if i were to guess if not the trans fluid the codes will b for sift selinoids easy fix but no fun to change. good luck. you will need a scanner for the check engine light uncommon for both to show up at the same time two diffrent systems ,disconnect the battery for 30second this will reset the ecm, it maybe a false code and it may not return.

it is the Transmission Control Unit. you have to find the reason why the TCU is flashing the D4 fault code. not replace the unit. have your vehicle scanned for another code. your transmission or transaxle is giving you a warning that something is wrong .

Blinking D4 can also mean electical problem. In my case it was ignition switch's life comming to the end. If my ignition switch was finaly dead and I replaced it with a new one D4 was not blinking anymore. If you have problems with ignition switch, for example it will not start engine at first time try to replace it before it will break on the road in least expected moment. I have '95 odyssey. The ignition switch is faulty in time, it was subject of honda factory recall.

you have a transmission fault the D4 light blinks to tell you that there is a transmission problem when the light is blinking the transmission computer put the transmission into limp home mode so it will not shift normally and you should try not to drive it very far when it gets to this stage you need to have the transmission codes check to pin point the problem

Theres a transmission cooling sensor and somtimes the wire comes loose from other repairs being done around it. or its just out. its on the left side sitting on the tranny. THATS WHY your d4 light is blinking

Hi, a few questions 1st. Did your mechanic check for engine codes? Is your Honda a v-6 or 4 cylinder?
The flashing D4 light indicates a possible transmission malfunction. You should avoid rapid acceleration until the cause of the light blinking is determined.
If you have the V-6, there is a diagnostic port to connect a scan tool to read any stored engine codes that have turned on the check engine light. This port is located behind the ashtray in the center console (most cars did not have this til 96).
If you have the 4 cyl engine, there is a service connector located under the dash on the pass. side. Inside the connector is what looks like a 2 wire plug should be attached. Take a paper clip, unbend it, and insert the 2 ends of the clip into the connector to 'jump' it. Turn the ignition switch to the on position (don't start the vehicle), and the check engine light will flash. Count the flashes, short flashes are for code #'s 1 to 9 (single digit code), a 2 digit code will be a long flash for the 1st digit, followed by a short flash for the 2nd digit. If there is more than one code, they will be separated by a pause. They will repeat so you can count them and write them down. Let me know what the code #'s are so I can help further. Curt
